Job Description

FUNCTION: Prepare and document financial information associated with the reconciliation of the general ledger, DDA and accounting system activity of M&T Securities and M&T Life Insurance Company.  Conduct research and analysis to provide department management with financial data and analysis for use in ensuring department objectives are met and Audit standards are maintained.  May act as lead on routine projects.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Prepare financial reconciliations for 2 of the Corporation's subsidiaries, M&T Securities Inc. and M&T Life Insurance Company, as well as internal management reports.   Document and analyze financial information related to aged items and financial losses.
Perform various accounting functions to include various analytical reconciliations, test of accounting data integrity, and general ledger entries, ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, SEC disclosure requirements, as well as bank regulatory requirements. 
Prepare special accounting reports for management and/or Audit.
Act as lead on routine projects such as systems upgrades, accounting for new products or conversion balancing.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
NATURE AND SCOPE: The position works under low to moderate supervision.
The position has significant contact with other internal bank departments as well as with external auditors.
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years accounting.
PC skills with thorough knowledge of Excel and other software programs utilized by department.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: 2 years accounting, audit, or financial institution experience.
Detail oriented.
Demonstrated oral and written communication skills.
Good organizational skills.
Flexibility to support multiple business lines.
Knowledge of GAAP.
Good customer service and teamwork skills.
Ability to work under time constraints.
