Job Description

THE OPPORTUNITY:
Participate on a team that reports the financial results of a $50 billion multi-entity publicly traded company. Actively involved in analyzing the Company’s financial results and reporting those results to stockholders, regulatory agencies, the Board of Directors and senior management.
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Assist in the preparation of financial statements for M&T Bank Corporation (“M&T”) and subsidiaries, including the Annual Report to Stockholders, filing of Forms 10-K and 10-Q with the Securities and Exchange Commission, various regulatory filings (Call Reports, FRY9-C) and M&T’s quarterly earnings releases.
Prepare accurate financial reports summarizing results of operations and supported by workpapers or other evidential matter.
Actively participates in the monthly closing of the general ledger, interpreting and analyzing financial information and presenting results.
Perform diverse accounting functions, including the preparation of general ledger entries and account reconciliations.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
The position works under general supervision with supervisory personnel providing guidance, supervision and review of work performed.
Interact with business line personnel throughout the organization to obtain understanding of financial results.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years accounting or finance experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years accounting or finance experience
Proficiency in Microsoft Excel essential.
General knowledge of personal computers, including a working knowledge of Microsoft XP operating system.
Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends, variations or other factors for further investigation.
IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Strong knowledge of accounting concepts and the ability to research authoritative resources.
Strong verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate a position to others.
Problem solving skills required to evaluate alternative solutions to issues.
Ability to clearly organize work and thoughts to efficiently complete assigned tasks.
Requires attention to detail, including accurate proofreading and verification of data, and clear and concise workpaper documentation.
Ability to quickly learn various application systems to readily understand output from those systems.
Demonstrate strong work ethic and the ability to persevere to meet reporting deadlines.
Strive to attain department goals as an integral part of the cooperative effort of the team.
