Accounting/Financial Analyst III - Capital Data Reporting

FUNCTION:

Participate on a team that develops and sustains processes for complying with Federal Reserve capital (Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR)) reporting requirements and relevant analysis. Be actively involved in ensuring consistent reporting across numerous Federal Reserve reports (FR Y-9C, Call Report, FR Y-14 series,), as well as the accuracy, integrity and timely filing of the FR Y-14 reports. Support the processes for FR Y-14 reporting, capital planning, and company-wide data, compliance and risk management matters and initiatives. Assist in the review of work performed by junior staff members. Complete significant and often complex tasks relating to regulatory reporting. 

 


 


 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

Participate in a broad range of activities related to regulatory reporting and analysis, including the FR Y-14 series and internal management reports.

Prepare and review accurate financial reports supported by workpapers or other evidential matter. 

Work independently on assignments with minimal supervision.

Improve existing processes and implement new processes within and outside of the department that enhance the efficiency and effectiveness.

Participate in and at times direct special projects relating to regulatory  reporting for all levels of management.

Interpret new accounting and/or regulatory guidance relative to the banking industry.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s finance, risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. 

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

 

 

 

NATURE AND SCOPE:

This position works under limited supervision with supervisory personnel providing occasional guidance, supervision and review of work performed.

This position requires interaction with all levels of personnel throughout the organization in understanding the business factors effecting regulatory reporting, profitabilityand capital planning, including interaction with management and regulatory agencies.

Provides guidance to junior staff and performs review of work performed.

 

 

 

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Occasionally required to plan, assign and monitor various projects/tasks of junior staff members.

 

 

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Accounting and a minimum of three years’ accounting, audit or financial institution experience, or in lieu of a degree, a minimum combined seven years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of three years' accounting, audit or financial institution experience.
Proficient in spreadsheet software.

Strong knowledge of PC financial and data software applications.

 

 

 

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

MBA preferred.
Familiarity with financial reporting software and other bank-specific systems.

Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends, variations or other factors for further investigation.

Strong knowledge of accounting concepts and the ability to research authoritative/regulatory resources.

Exceptional verbal and written communication skills, including the ability to clearly articulate a position to others, including senior management.

Superior problem solving skills required to evaluate alternative solutions to issues and determine the most appropriate solution.

Ability to clearly organize work and thoughts to efficiently complete assigned tasks, including working on several tasks or projects simultaneously.

Attention to detail, including accurate proofreading and verification of data, and clear and concise workpaper documentation.

Ability to quickly learn various application systems to readily understand output from those systems.

Experience in directing projects and in supervising others, and ability to effectively review work prepared by junior staff members.

Ability to both work independently and as part of a team.
