BASIC FUNCTION: This role will be responsible for managing, leading and executing audits and coaching team members to deliver a quality product in line with department and industry standards and expectations. The Audit Manager will be responsible for overseeing ongoing risk assessment, control identification, audit execution and continuous auditing of the asset management businesses within the wealth management portfolio, which includes broker/dealer and investment advisory businesses.  As a member of the Audit Management Team, this leadership role supports continued enhancements to audit methodology, ongoing stakeholder engagement, talent management, and overall promotion of the Audit Department within the organization.
  POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Manage all phases of audit coverage of the asset management businesses.    Serve as lead auditor or test executor on certain audit engagements. Support the risk assessment and plan development process to determine audit coverage. Represent Audit on asset management business line control enhancement initiatives or other working groups. Work with management to implement appropriate solutions to audit findings often engaging with Senior Management on matters that will have a major impact on the area managed.  Support and encourage integrated auditing concepts and use of technology to improve the efficiency and effectiveness of audit procedures. Apply an in-depth understanding of the inter-relationships of business and support units throughout a financial institution to identify potential impacts to the overall control environment and impacts to proposed audit approaches. Effectively communicate in order to influence a wide range of audiences including respective product or functional support partners. Ensure comprehensive continuous auditing and validation procedures are in place relative to Internal Audit and regulatory issues. Provide appropriate level of oversight to staff.  Provide coaching and developmental feedback to staff and tailor approach based upon their skills and experience.  Actively participate in overall staff development. Provide advisory and consulting services to Bank management on risk and control matters.  Stay abreast of best practices and industry developments and incorporate into audit coverage. Manage multiple tasks concurrently in an efficient and effective manner with minimal oversight. Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations. Complete other related duties as assigned.   NATURE AND SCOPE: This role is responsible for the timely delivery of high quality, value-added audit services for the wealth management portfolio, which meet the requirements of the Audit Committee and regulatory expectations.  Ensures ongoing conformance with professional auditing standards. This position directly communicates with senior, middle and line management and external auditors.  Builds strong partnerships with business stakeholders and other audit team members.   This role also requires periodic interaction with external regulatory agencies.   MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: This position will have direct supervisory responsibilities for certain members of the audit team and may also provide coaching opportunities for certain audit professionals on other engagements.   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelors’ degree in Technology/Accounting/Finance/Business, or related discipline and a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a related role, inclusive of 2 years in a supervisory or managerial role, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 11 years of higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 7 years’ experience in a related role, inclusive of 2 years of supervisory or managerial experience. Demonstrates strong judgment, political astuteness, and sensitivity to cultural diversity. Strong leadership skills and ability to develop and coach others.    Effective oral and written communication skills with an approachable style. Possesses strong project management and interpersonal skills, makes sound decisions, exhibiting initiative and critical thinking. Possesses effective negotiation skills. Possesses a proactive and 'no surprises' approach in communicating issues and strength in sustaining independent views.   IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Strong investment advisor and broker dealer experience, preferably in a risk management or audit role. Strong analytical skills and willingness to keep up with industry and regulatory developments and to learn new concepts and methods. Related certifications (CPA, CIA).
