Business Systems Team Leader Wilmington, DE   OPPORTUNITY:
Manages assigned business systems teams and associated business relationships and technology solutions of assigned application(s) bank-wide. Works with internal applications and systems owners to identify their requirements in application look and feel to the end user and provides appropriate feedback.
 
Works across business lines to assist in authoring effective requirements for discretionary application enhancements, business-as-usual upgrades and deferred maintenance projects, including the identification of all impacted stakeholders and business processes, to improve the Bank’s Technology Portfolio and Software Development Lifecycle.
Acts on behalf of higher management as required by absence.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Manage and oversee the execution of complex project plans on assigned applications, inclusive of all accountabilities and tasks to ensure adherence to time and budgetary constraints, and identifying and working through issues to meet delivery milestones.
 
Assign resources and monitor progress of all assignments against project plans. Responsible for short and long-term staff planning, including skill sets, availability, capacity and developmental opportunities to ensure adequacy of project resources.
May manage the relationship with internal application owners, emphasizing project execution and production support related to their supporting applications. Serve as liaison with internal and external application stakeholders to review status of initiatives, compliance/regulatory changes and contractual and/or system maintenance changes and manage the overall client queue, including expectations, priority setting and assisting with project-related cost and scheduling.
 
Manage assigned team in functionality and testing efforts of application changes, inclusive of reviewing business requirements, functional specifications and preparing and executing testing; may coordinate completion of integrated testing efforts. Work with Application Development, Operations/Engineering and business teams to ensure testing efforts are included in all project phases and include estimates, project time lines, status updates, training and implementation.

Manage assigned team in determining application design and changes and the developing and/or revising of business requirements to ensure applications are updated to reflect business needs and operate efficiently and effectively.
Recommend technically sound application designs based on business requirements that protect the integrity and purpose of the application and support internal and external customer needs.
 
Ensure identification and resolution of design-related issues and concerns to proactively minimize any negative impact to owners of assigned applications, and their users, customers and clients and including interfacing applications, infrastructure or architectural standards and back- office operations.

Monitor functional specifications and change requests to ensure project stays within scope and meets regulatory requirements, while ensuring adherence to business requirements and Corporate Technology standards.

Recommend new technology and related policies and procedures to enhance applications, ensure technical support provided clients is efficient and effective to meet internal and external customer needs and mitigate risk.

Maintain a current understanding of the business environment supported to provide expert guidance for technical, business and operational impacts associated with a project or production problem.

Maintain efficient operation and effectiveness of supported applications and ensure any degradation to the supported applications or environment are not introduced. Recommend new technology, policies or processes to enhance applications and ensure efficiency and effectiveness of technical support provided clients. Provide functional feedback to internal application owners on current or proposed vendor software, including application capabilities and the extent that it supports pre-defined business needs.

Complete status reports for management on system changes, current projects, status or activities to ensure the technology portfolio is efficiently and effectively supporting applications that meet business needs of the Bank.

Support management in the annual planning process. Provide input into the overall cost center management and may maintain part or all of the budget for assigned cost center.

Exercise usual authority of manager concerning staffing, performance, appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The position works independently with minimal supervision and acts on behalf of higher management as required by absence.

This position assumes responsibility for application functionality for assigned applications and resources/budgets designed to support that application. This requires the position to manage all aspects of the team’s responsibilities, inclusive of project management, production support, problem resolution and day-to-day activities.
 
The position works directly with internal application owners to manage projects from business requirements through post implementation.
The position may serve as a functional representative on internal Bank committees and ad-hoc projects.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Associates’ degree and a minimum of 6 years’ operational/business analytics experience including a minimum of 2 years’ proven supervision or leadership experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience, with a minimum of 6 years’ operational/business analytics experience including a minimum of 2 years’ proven supervision or leadership experience.

Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages. Capable of working on multiple projects of a complex nature.

Ability to effectively use project management, word processing and spreadsheet applications. Excellent problem-solving skills to assist in issue resolution.
 
Familiar with application development software and hardware platforms. Ability to understand business(es) supported and its’ terminology.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Experience with skills, application(s) and functions of the technology area being led. Subject matter expert in business with knowledge or experience utilizing application/system being supported.
 
Mastered understanding of applications supported with an advanced knowledge of interfacing/integrated applications.

Proven mentoring and leadership capabilities from a project management perspective. Good understanding of the Bank’s application framework.
Ability to understand business(es) being supported and its’ terminology.
Aware of the Bank’s business plan and strategic objectives with the ability to shape direction. Mastered knowledge and focus of the entire system to work on projects outside of normal BAU. Self-motivated and able to motivate others.
Ability to handle multiple tasks.
