Job Description

Responsible for providing data driven support at the business level. The ability to identify, analyze, rationalize and communicate complex business problems and recommend solutions. May perform day to day support activities and act as lead on highly visible projects. Act in a liaison capacity between assigned department and Technology personnel.
Supports data needs of all teams within Corporate Compliance, including, but not limited to:  Management Information Systems/Reporting, Financial Investigations Unit (“FIU”), Enterprise Wide Risk Assessment (“EWRA”). Works closely with all Compliance functions and with Technology and Audit to raise awareness around any data issues and participate in the resolution of such issues. Perform detailed testing on data elements to evaluate data quality dimensions and determine potential data issues. Provide feedback to management regarding results. Make recommendations on findings to management. Develop complex and ad-hoc reports/spreadsheets; ensuring information is accurate and maintaining appropriate controls. Develop a thorough understanding of the business and its functions, processes and operations. Conduct and complete research on a timely and ad-hoc basis for various departmental projects. Perform advanced data and statistical analysis in support of the compliance and regulatory requirements using tools for data profiling and analytics to present results and recommendations. Extract and analyze data to support the use of the best data within the bank. Integrate data driven strategies to support business initiatives and regulatory compliance. Understand relationships and effects among programs, interfacing applications and platforms. Prepares charts, tables and diagrams to assist in data analysis and testing. Participate and work as a team member/leader on various departmental projects. Responsible for performing tasks in a manner that are compliant with applicable laws and regulations and / or that serve to help the company be in compliance with laws and regulations that apply to the business line the position supports. Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned.
    The position requires substantial interaction with both internal and external contacts in order to obtain pertinent information.
    The position acts as liaison between department and other business units on various projects.
    The incumbent works independently under very limited supervision as well as a member or a project leader of a project team.
    Serves as resource for junior employees.

  • Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 3 years’ related experience or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience including a minimum of 7 years’ related experience Excellent oral and written communication skills.
    Strong analytical ability and creative problem solving skills.
    Ability to function as a project leader.

    Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
    Ability to work independently and function as a member of a project team.
    Detail oriented.
    Excellent knowledge of Windows and PC software programs.
    Minimum of 3 years banking industry experience.
    Minimum 3 years prior departmental experience.
    Highly skilled proficiency in the use of spreadsheet, database, graphing, presentation, and department specific software, with a working knowledge of financial models.
