Collaboration Engineer
Amherst, NY
 
Basic Function:
Provides designs, specifies information systems solutions and the highest level technical direction in the development of new or existing programs to solve basic to complex problems or enhancements.  Acts as a principal application designer for critical components and major modifications effectively using analytical skills, technical skills, available technology and tools in the evaluation of client requirements and processes. Provides solutions that are technologically sound. Often directs and monitors the activities of junior staff.

 
Responsibilities
Collaboration Engineering responsibilities include the following:
  • Design and development of secure, resilient and supportable collaboration systems, applications and infrastructure using approved methodologies. 
  • Develop and maintain appropriate implementation documentation including project plans, test scripts, and turnover documentation.  Coordination of operational support for implementation.
  • Development and documentation of system monitoring and management applications and operational turnover process and procedures
  • Appropriate turnover with integration support teams.
  • Development and maintenance of appropriate business continuity plans.  Coordination of support and testing of business continuity plans with collaboration integration support teams. 
  • Review and testing system and application patches; coordinating and supporting security and application patching with the integration support team.
  • Documenting system and application engineering changes for the collaboration infrastructure
  • Maintaining certification and test environments for all production applications as appropriate.
  • Working with third party vendors integrating messaging solutions with the bank. 
3rd level support responsibilities include
  • Troubleshooting and support of all collaboration systems and infrastructure
  • Resolving complex application and service problems, documenting progress and applying appropriate solutions. 
  • Advising and assisting integration teams in resolving more complex problems. 
 
Activities
Develops operational support plans, processes and documentation for ongoing support of collaboration applications and services.  Develops and maintains technical documentation and diagrams for collaboration applications or services.   Reviews and tests patches, upgrades and fixes prior to productions implementation. 
Develops and maintains project plans, test plans, technical documentation and other material as required.  Documents and executes system and application changes as appropriate including documenting process steps, impacts and testing.  Reviews changes and documentation prepared by more junior technicians.  Identifies required tasks, prepares time estimates and staff requirements for operational activities.
Recommends new technology, process or procedural changes to improve delivered services.  Follows and promotes the use of operational standards and procedures.  Works with integration staff to coordinate operational process turnover, accuracy of documentation and scheduling of changes requiring operational support. 
Coordinates, directs and assists more junior technical staff in troubleshooting and support activities. 
Works with customers, staff and vendors to resolve more complex technical problems.  Collects data, reviews logs and performance metrics and test solutions; uses technical references, tools and experience to identify root cause.  Leverages integrated and stand-alone technical tools, process documentation, technical diagrams, system diagnostic data and logs and technical references to resolve technical problems.  Provides, advice, assistance and support 2nd level support teams.
Develops engineering support plans and processes, prepares thorough, clear plans for operational support activities including maintenance, patching, upgrades and technology implementations and communicates to the integration team.  Reviews documentation prepared by more junior technicians.
Prepares and reviews assessments to include required tasks, time estimates and staff requirements.  Recommends new technology, policies or processes to benefit the organization and improve operational efficiencies.  Performs other related duties and assists on projects as required.  Follows and promotes the use of operational standards and procedures.  May assist in developing expense and capital budgets. Monitors employee performance and may prepare annual appraisals.


 
Basic Qualifications:
  • Minimum of two years college with at least ten years involvement in systems analysis and application development, or in lieu of education twelve years of relevant experience.
  • Requires a strong understanding of Collaboration technologies including Microsoft SharePoint Server 2010 and 2013 to include best practices
  • Demonstrates a high aptitude for complex problem analysis and resolution. 
  • Ability to lead or actively participate in technical design review and troubleshooting sessions.
  • Capable of quickly learning new technical skills.
Additional Qualifications
  • An understanding of Microsoft SQL Server and Transact SQL
  • An understanding for Microsoft Window Server
  • A basic understanding of networking technologies
  • Requires a strong understanding or system development and integration methodologies. 
  • Must be able to work independently and in teams developing moderately complex collaboration application or systems and integrating them into the banks messaging infrastructure. 
  • Requires the ability to apply problem analysis to more complex issues, perform data collection and interpretation to identify root cause, develop appropriate solutions and apply them to resolve problems.
  • Must be able to coordinate multiple internal and external resources in resolving complex technical problems. 
  • Must be familiar with integrated and stand-alone tools, process documentation, technical diagrams, system diagnostic data, logs and technical references to assist in resolving technical problems. 
The position is part of a larger engineering team focused on messaging and collaboration technologies. 
  • The ability to effectively communicate with clients, vendors and other technology teams at different levels is essential.  Strong verbal, written and organizational skills are required.
  •  Must be able to manage vendor support relationships.
  • Requires four years of college and four years’ operational support experience including hands on experience with collaboration systems or equivalent work experience. 
  • Solid understanding of collaboration technologies, strong troubleshooting and analysis skills and excellent verbal communications skills.
  • 3rd level support and troubleshooting require an excellent functional understand of the supported applications and services and understanding complex interrelationships and effects among applications, services and platforms. 
  • Support operations require problem analysis, data collection and interpretation to identify root cause and application of appropriate solutions. 
  • Must be able to effectively direct and monitor more junior staff, provide assistance in resolving more complex problems and make recommendations on staff allocation and training needs.
  • The ability to effectively communicate with clients, vendor other technology teams at different levels is essential. 
  • Strong verbal, written and organizational skills are required.
