Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Manage multiple commercial support teams spanning several regions across the footprint with a span of control of 30 . Ensure that assigned teams are performing all duties and responsibilities in accordance with established policies and procedures. Make recommendations for improving processes and procedures that will result in risk mitigation, time savings, cost reduction, or an improvement in customer satisfaction.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Evaluate and own risk exposure, if identified, through the administration of annual Internal Control Monitoring for assigned offices.
Educate and monitor the understanding of regulatory requirements that affect the Bank’s capital requirements.
Participate and manage projects through to completion within assigned deadlines in regards to standardized fee collection, past due maturity reviews, financial statement collection, credit policy rewrite initiative, etc.
Participate in the ongoing education of the entire team through the development and/or delivery of training materials throughout the year. This includes the development of new processes and procedures, and recommendations for update in conjunction with the Commercial Procedures Manager.
Provide advice and guidance to Supervisors to enable them to support their teams successfully regarding: workload prioritization, procedures, risk avoidance, personnel issues, and problem customer situations.
Monitor performance, employee development, objective adherence, and employee engagement for team members. Work closely with Employee Relations when situations arise that requires Performance Improvement Plans, Disciplinary Action, and/or Termination.
Oversee the development and execution of Employee Engagement Impact Plans for assigned regions after analyzing results and diagnosing areas for improvement based on Employee Engagement Survey Results. Monitor the Impact Plans and determine successfully activities to continue on an ongoing basis.
Work with direct reports to establish an ongoing Development Plan that is personalized for each individual based on successes and personal desired areas for improvement that includes a component relating to developing their team members. Monitor and document the adherence to the plan throughout the year.
Participate in strategic planning and execute on decisions based on the needs of assigned regions, the Commercial Bank, and M&T Bank as a whole that are in alignment of key priorities.
Develop strong partnerships with Area Executives, Regional Presidents, Market Managers, and Group Managers to foster an environment of team work and mutual respect. Meet regularly by presenting at team meetings and attending key conferences to communicate ongoing service levels, upcoming initiatives, and potential concerns/areas for improvement. Ensure team is effectively and efficiently delivering the desired level of support to internal and external customers.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The Commercial Operations Manager (COM) is responsible for ensuring that the commercial support teams within the regions they manage are informed, directly or indirectly, of and adhering to all documented processes and procedures.
Create and execute the strategic direction of the department in alignment with key priorities.
Possess comprehensive knowledge of business, process, technology, and applicable regulations.
Plan, organize, and manage workload (self/supervisors/staff) to achieve desired outcome.
Work in an environment which requires independent thought and discretionary solutions.
This position will be appointed signing authority within established limits.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for multiple regions and direct reports primarily at the Supervisory level
Oversee a department of 30 employees.

Manage budgeted employee welfare and travel/expense for owned cost center(s). Manage budgeted salary expense when determining annual non-Officer and Officer merit cycle rewards and incentive program contributions. Manage budgeted FTE count and evaluate staffing needs based on the evolving support structure to determine appropriate number of FTE needed per Region. Perform workforce restructure(s) to right-size team(s) if needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree plus a minimum of 8 years’ operations experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined 12 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 8 years’ operations experience.
Two years’ supervisory/management experience.
Ability to effectively partner with Senior Leadership.
Ability to effectively identify needs/gaps/opportunities and recommend appropriate solutions.
Proficient in word processing, spreadsheet, presentation and email software utilized by the department.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to work independently and as a team player.
Self-motivated, well-organized individual.
Ability to work under time constraints.
Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management, and peers).
Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside organization.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Travel up to 25% within the region.
Master’s degree.
Knowledge of applicable products, systems and workflows.
Knowledge of bank strategic vision and mission with ability to link specific department/division mission.
Knowledge of bank-wide policies and procedures and responsible area.
