Job Description

Title: Commercial Portfolio Manager II, Equipment Finance
Location: Baltimore, MD
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provide direct support to Commercial Equipment Finance (CEF) Sales Representatives, Group Managers and Senior Credit Officer with respect to portfolio management of customer relationships, with an emphasis on compliance, continuous monitoring and assisting with documentation of credit needs for new and existing customers within the CEF Transactional and Renewable Loan Portfolio.
ESSENTIAL RESPONSIBILITIES:
  • Support underwriting efforts by completing due diligence on prospects or customers; working with CEF sales personnel, loan analysis and other credit division personnel to successfully drive the underwriting process.
  • Includes documenting and tracking of relevant information, reports and memos to ensure necessary credit approvals are obtained, documented and adhered to. 
  • Evaluate and determine credit and structural risks of potential leasing opportunities and existing leasing deals via detailed financial analysis, industry assessment, collateral valuation, and cash flow/ability to pay analysis.
  • May occasionally include attending client / prospect calls with CEF sales personnel in order to gain a thorough understanding of their business in order to effectively assist in annual reviews, renewals and prospect conversions.
  • Work with CEF operations, documentation and legal to interpret credit policy and underwriting approval parameters.
  • Support other lines of business and loan analysis on non-transactional underwriting and system inputs as needed.
  • Perform basic ad-hoc analyses to support business decisions, including industry analysis and portfolio data analysis. Provide feedback to management regarding results and make recommendations on findings to management.
  • Develop a thorough understanding of the business and its functions, processes and operations.  Keep abreast of industry and market trends which may affect CEF and the industry overall.
  • Monitor credit performance of portfolio and alert personnel to changes that may require action to ensure risk mitigation in order to minimize potential losses.
  • Participate in the planning and implementation of departmental projects to achieve short and long-term business objectives; assist in developing project plans.
  • Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with bank and/or regulatory standards and policies (i.e. KYC and other data integrity within then Bank’s systems).
  • May be involved, to some extent, in some or all of the following:  (i) setting policy or developing and overseeing the implementation of procedures or controls related to compliance requirements within the overall business processes; (ii) directly or indirectly monitoring functions that, on a day-to-day basis, ensure that the procedures and controls are functioning as designed (e.g., reviewing and resolving exception reports or ensuring that exception reporting is occurring and/or providing reporting and trending of data for management), (iii) performing data management and input, or (iv) managing examinations or audits involving regulatory matters and any resultant corrective actions.
  • Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Perform other related duties and special projects as requested by management.

    NATURE AND SCOPE:
  • Incumbent works under general supervision and will work very closely with Group Managers, Senior Credit Officer and Sales Reps in all aspects of the underwriting process.
  • Increased complexity and size of deals managed.
  • Impact extends to Bank's long-term operations, revenues and profitability.

    BASIC QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelor's degree in Accounting/Finance or related field with a minimum of four years Accounting, Finance or Credit or relevant experience or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of eight years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of four years of Accounting, Finance or Credit or relevant experience.

    IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
  • Commercial lending experience.
  • Solid knowledge of personal computers.
  • Thorough knowledge of various software programs Word, Excel and other departmental software.
  • Excellent analytical capability.
  • Knowledge of credit principles.
  • Highly motivated, detail-oriented self-starter.
  • Excellent communication and organization skills.
  • Ability to interact with external and internal personnel using tact and diplomacy.
  • Ability to work under critical time constraints
