Job Description

The Opportunity:
Responsible for managing portfolio of defaulted Commercial relationships to implement the timely workout, repossession or legal action required to secure the bank’s collateral and reduce risk of loss, up to $10MM.
Primary Responsibilities:
Collect, prepare and analyze business and financial statements to administer the turnaround or exit of complex credit relationships, which includes the decision to provide additional financing or liquidate collateral to offset losses.
Assess credit quality of relationship to determine overall performance and risk and make recommendations for grading.
Assess repayment ability under restructure / forbearance situations.

Negotiate repayment with borrowers involved in complex loan relationships.
Initiate direct contact at business location to inspect and evaluate collateral condition, discuss workout, obtain signatures, etc.
Collaborate with the Legal Department to validate legal actions utilizing most cost effective strategy.
Keep abreast of business and market trends that may affect portfolio performance.
Perform equity analysis evaluation - evaluate equity position and collaborate with remarketing / REO on best method for disposition of collateral.
Identify and investigate high risk/high exposure situations and escalate situations appropriately with recommendation for action.
Participate in site visits to businesses, assessing collateral value and condition of property, and overall status of business relationship.
Occasionally work with other departments to achieve overall company objectives.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.

Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Complete other related duties as assigned.
Nature and Scope:
The incumbent works under low supervision with minimal direction.
Interacts with all levels of personnel, management and vendors across the footprint.
The position has lending authority up to $50M.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field plus 2 years relevant professional work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience including a minimum of 2 years relevant professional work experience.

Work experience must be inclusive of a minimum of 2 years equity valuation experience and collection or credit experience
Ability to travel regularly; amount depends on portfolio of business assigned.
Understanding of Bankruptcy laws and Uniform Commercial Code.
Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
Experience with managing commercial real estate loans.
Commercial workout and/or lending experience.
Business Banking or Commercial loan collection experience.
Physical Requirements:
Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.
Ability to navigate the facilities of M&T’s Commercial customers
