Compensation Analyst
Buffalo, NY

We are looking for a Compensation Analyst to join our team in Buffalo, New York. The selected candidate will provide compensation support to Human Resources Management and the bank’s business units by evaluating new and existing jobs, participating and conducting salary surveys, and analyzing and reporting on various compensation issues. This is a critical role on the Compensation team, supporting job architecture redesign and implementation across the organization. The most qualified candidate will have proven analytical and quantitative skills and proficiency with Excel.
Key Responsibilities:
Evaluate new and existing jobs to determine and maintain internal equity and market competitiveness. Develop an understanding of the jobs used throughout the organization and the factors affecting their value.
Participate and conduct salary and best practices surveys to obtain relevant data. Analyze and report on job specific and structure wide competitiveness.
Participate in the annual merit cycles by providing reporting, analysis, and presentation preparation.
Research and gather information; perform ad hoc analysis to support business decisions. Present analysis to departmental management regarding compensation issues and trends.
Perform ad hoc and standard reporting on various compensation issues and in support of business units such as but not limited to best practices, gap analysis, and other compensation reports.
Administer the PERC committee process, assigning job evaluations to compensation staff, documenting meetings, and performing other assignments related to committee management.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Nature and Scope:
Compensation is a Center of Excellence in the Human Resources division responsible for providing compensation programs consistent with the Bank’s needs and market trends. This position will support activities and projects related to the research, design and implementation of compensation programs, particularly the development, administration, and execution of job architecture in support of the Bank’s total reward philosophy and competitive practices. As such, the position requires substantial interaction with both external and internal (up through senior management) contacts in order to obtain pertinent information.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 1 year relevant experience or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 5 years higher education and/or work experience including 1 year of relevant experience.
Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
Human Resources / Compensation experience.
Prior banking experience.
Graduate from M&T Management Development program.
Proficient in Microsoft Office including Excel, Word, and Access.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.
Strong analytical ability.
Able to work independently as well as function as a team member.
Ability to handle confidential information with discretion.
