Job Description

Basic Function:
Under the leadership of Management, this position is responsible for assisting with the continued development of a robust, cohesive UDAAP compliance program.


(a) Under the guidance of Management, assists in the process of identifying and assessing UDAAP risk for products and services across the bank.
(b) Assists with monitoring business activities to identify the potential exposure of UDAAP risks, and assist with implementation of measures to prevent, eliminate, manage or mitigate those risks. Assist with the review of complaint data to assess potential UDAAP compliance risk.
(c) Research regulatory issues, document analysis and respond in a consistent and timely manner to compliance questions. Disseminate changes and/or new regulatory guidance related to UDAAP to business partners. Assist with review of new products, services or process to help identify and assess potential UDAAP compliance risk.
(d) Assist with development of enterprise-wide policies, standards and procedures designed to achieve compliance with applicable UDAAP requirements and standards.
(e) Identify, measure, and escalate compliance risk issues to the Deputy Compliance Officer – UDAAP, Director, Responsible Banking and/or the business units as necessary. Assist with creation of action plans to remediate gaps and track the status of action plans.
(f) Assist with development of UDAAP training sessions for CRM and line of business partners (including enterprise-wide training materials for all employees).
(g) Assist in the preparation and facilitation of regulatory examinations and internal audits as necessary.
(h) Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
(i) Complete other related duties as assigned.


Nature and Scope:

The position works under the general supervision of the Deputy Compliance Officer and/or other CRM personnel and requires independent reasoning, discretion, and comprehension of laws and regulations, including the ability to explain and clarify them.
The position has substantial contact with internal departments / positions within M&T Bank Corporation and its subsidiaries.
The position may also include some independent interaction with external contacts such as Bank Examiners, attorneys, and peers at other institutions


Minimum Requirements:
Bachelors’ degree or the equivalent in work experience with minimum four (4) years compliance or banking experience in an audit or operational risk management function, or six (6) years general banking experience.


Technical Skills:

Effective project management skills.
Strong analytical abilities and problem solving skills.
Ability to read and understand laws, regulations and common law applicable to subject matter.
Ability to apply laws, regulations and common law principals to practices within subject matter business units and assist in the development of clear policies and procedures designed to assure compliance with them.
Ability to exercise judgment and sound discretion and understand when either Management or formal legal interpretive advice is needed.
Proficient personal computer skills to include spreadsheet, word-processing and database systems.
Ability to communicate orally and in writing with middle management and to coordinate effectively with first line risk officers and other risk personnel.
Ability to use Internet to access and download regulatory compliance information available on government websites.
Ability to complete reports for internal use and for use by various external bank examiners.
Ability to coordinate and work collaboratively with internal and external contacts on a daily basis.
