BASIC FUNCTION:
This position is responsible for providing empirically derived analysis support to the Compliance Testing Group. A primary objective of these data analysis activities is to provide “continuous” Testing capabilities that allow Compliance Testing to maintain risk and control awareness and perform testing on an ongoing basis. In addition, this position aims to provide testing teams with the capability to expand the scope of testing techniques (e.g. perform control testing on entire populations of transactions in lieu of sample based techniques). This position will develop, execute, and monitor analytic programs.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Develop and implement data analytic programs for use during the conduct of regular testable unit examinations and/or the Compliance Testing Group “continuous” testing program.
Demonstrate ability to obtain data from disparate sources, link information, check data integrity, and perform exploratory analysis.
Proactively work with Compliance Testing Management to identify data needs. Independently take action to obtain the needed data, perform preliminary analyses, and provide the results to the testing teams.
Provide analytical support to testing teams during the conduct of testable unit examinations.
Keep abreast of industry trends with respect to Data Analytic and “Continuous” testing techniques and activities. Take initiative to become proficient in the use of multiple data analytic tools.
Work with Compliance Testing Management to ensure the Compliance Testing Group’s data analytic capabilities are in line with industry and regulator expectations.
Provide training to the Compliance Testing Group personnel with respect to data analytic tools and techniques.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is dedicated to the Compliance Testing Group’s data analytic efforts, which is an emerging practice in the industry and an expectation of external regulatory agencies. Data Analytic programs and techniques are receiving heightened scrutiny from the organization’s examiners. A wide degree of creativity and latitude is expected for this position.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Prospective supervision of 1-2 employees.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s Degree in a business related curriculum and a minimum 5 years relevant work experience (auditing, banking), OR, in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience including 5 years relevant work experience.
General knowledge of banking industry.
Thorough knowledge of Microsoft Office suite, with a proficiency in the Excel product.
Strong working knowledge in one data analytic technologies (SAS and/or SQL) with an ability to gain proficiency in the other.
Knowledge of the Bank’s technical environment.
Strong interpersonal skills, having the ability to effectively communicate both orally and in writing.
Ability to thrive in a collaborative, team-oriented environment.
Strong organizational and analytical skills.
Able to prioritize and drive multiple projects and initiatives.
Self-driven with the ability to identify opportunities and achieve results.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
MBA or Master’s Degree in an appropriate field, preferably Accounting or Finance.
Thorough knowledge of auditing standards, regulation requirements, and external regulatory agency expectations.
