The Opportunity

The person in this position is responsible for providing operational support to the Corporate Tax and Accounting Policy and Special Projects departments within the Controllers Group of M&T Bank.  These Departments are responsible for all corporate tax accounting, tax returns, and accounting support for the Bank.  This person would also provide occasional administrative support to others within the Controllers Group. 


The primary responsibilities of this position include:

Managing the tax calendar. The tax calendar is a system that monitors the due dates of the numerous federal and state income, sales and personal property tax returns.  Calendar management includes communication of impending due dates and interaction with the tax staff to organize a timely work flow process.  The position is also responsible for processing and filing corporate federal and state tax returns, estimates and extension requests.  The tax return process also includes managing and accounting for the payments for these returns, estimates and extensions.  Responsibilities may include working with state tax officials and in house professional tax staff on administrative issues.  In addition to tax filings, the position is responsible for recording and monitoring the responses to numerous notices and correspondences from various states and other jurisdictions. 

Overall, the person in this position is responsible for making the processing, payment and administrative side of the Corporate Tax department run smoothly. 

In support of the Accounting Policy and Special Projects department, responsibilities will include administrative duties related to opening of new general ledger accounts and cost centers, collecting and tracking reconciliation checklists from accounting departments throughout the bank, clearing routine system to GL rejects, and other administrative tasks, as needed.  

Minimum Qualifications Required

Bachelor’s degree in an applicable field or in lieu of degree equivalent in work experience.

Working knowledge of Windows and PC software programs, including Microsoft Office software.

Excellent written and verbal communications skills.


Ideal Qualifications Preferred

General accounting skills preferred.

Ability to interact effectively with all levels of personnel.

Ability to work independently and function as a member of a project team.

Detail oriented.
