Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for directing all strategic and ad hoc customer analytics initiatives for M&T Bank. The strategic and ad hoc analytics team focuses on answering critical and unique business questions by conducting quantitative and statistical analysis.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Serve as a member of the Customer Analytics leadership team and focus on continuously enhancing and evolving our strategic and ad hoc analytics capabilities.
Develop and direct a variety of fact-based analyses that aid Senior Management in making decisions relating to the creation or expansion of new or existing services.
Develop creative approaches and methodologies to answer critical business questions, evaluate new product and service opportunities, and assess market potential.
Provide actionable and insightful recommendations from data mining, segmentation, customer profiling and quantitative analyses with the goals of: identifying acquisition, cross-sell, up-sell, and retention opportunities.
Evaluate opportunities to improve customer profitability, targeting efficacy, offer appeal, channel preference, product and service bundling, customer loyalty, etc.
Oversee the validation, tracking and monitoring the performance of statistical models, and development of next-generation models.
Participate in strategic marketing decisions relating to customer needs, preferences, behaviors and segmentation, as well as advertising, direct marketing, and digital marketing efforts.
Interpret results of analyses, translate insights into actionable recommendations, present the insights and recommendations to senior management and work closely with business partners to integrate and operationalize the recommendations in the business strategies, plans and tactics.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
This position is responsible for directing our on-shore and off-shore analytics team comprising of database analysts, statisticians, and business intelligence analysts. This group conducts quantitative and statistical analyses of customer information, evaluates customer behavior, and profitability of the customer portfolio and generates actionable insights to support critical business decisions. This person will provide the technical and thought leadership for extracting customer/client and marketing insights from customer databases.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Responsible for the leadership, coaching, development and superior performance of a group of 2 onshore team members and about 3-5 offshore team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Master’s Degree or an MBA, preferably in a quantitative (statistics, economics, operations research, etc.) or related field.
7 years of relevant work experience.
In lieu of advanced degree, 11 years of related work experience required.
Minimum two years supervisory experience.
In-depth knowledge of statistical tools (e.g., SAS, SPSS) and techniques (linear regression, time series analysis, factor analysis, cluster analysis etc.) used for modeling, segmentation, and in-depth data analysis
Superb verbal and written communication skills.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Ability to assume project oriented work requiring the combination of synthesizing information and presenting findings that aid in managerial decision making.
Ability to work in a fast-paced, multi-tasked environment
Financial services industry experience
Experience in managing and overseeing offshore analytics vendors.
Proven ability to effectively coach and develop talent
Three years marketing or management consulting experience with consumer financial services, packaged goods, and/or marketing services companies.
