Cybersecurity Infrastructure Defense Analyst III

Basic Function

The Cybersecurity Infrastructure Defense Analyst III will identify, collect, examine, and preserve evidence using controlled and documented analytical and investigative techniques as it relates to data protection, data loss prevention (DLP), and insider threat. This position will require an understanding of networking concepts and technologies, and will need to have the ability to demonstrate knowledge of current industry standard tools relating to SIEM, Firewalls, Network Monitoring, IPS/IDS, Email Monitoring, Data Loss Prevention, etc.


Essential Position Responsibilities

•  Analyze and define data requirements and specifications relating to data loss and data loss prevention.

•  Conduct analysis of log files, evidence and other information in order to determine best methods for identifying the perpetrator(s) related to insider threat scenarios.

•  Identify, assess and recommend cybersecurity or cybersecurity enabled products for use within a system and ensure recommended products are in compliance with organization's evaluation and validation requirements.

•  Oversee installation, implementation, configuration and support of system components.

•  Coordinate data loss and DLP incident response and investigation functions.

•  Implement security measures to resolve data loss vulnerabilities, mitigate risk, and recommend security changes or system components as needed.

•  Perform security reviews and identify security gaps in architecture.

•  Provide cybersecurity recommendations to leadership based on significant threats and vulnerabilities.

•  Troubleshoot and correct hardware, software, and interoperability problems with the underlying technical components that support the DLP program.

•  Analyze own operational architecture, tools and procedures for ways to improve performance.


Nature and Scope

•  This function is critical to the corporation's ability to meet regulatory, legal, and risk mitigation requirements.

•  Interacts and relates with, middle management, supervisors, and staff. Also may interface with M&T Internal Audit, Compliance, and Risk Management functions as well as external professional organizations supporting areas of expertise. 

•  Documents and communicates proposed new approaches, methods, technologies, or breakthroughs in area of expertise.


Minimum Qualifications

•  Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Assurance, or related discipline and a minimum of 3 years’ professional work experience, including a minimum of 2 years direct cybersecurity experience, or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ professional work experience, including a minimum of 2 years direct cybersecurity experience.

•  Previous Cybersecurity tools experience relating to SIEM, Firewalls, Network Monitoring, IPS/IDS, Email Monitoring, Data Loss prevention, etc.

•  Very good written and verbal communication skills.

•  Ability to communicate with management, peers, internal and external auditors and examiners, business partners and other security related agencies as required.

•  Ability to research and report on governance/compliance related topics using a variety of sources (ex: Internet, affiliate organizations, governmental agencies) and techniques.


Preferred Experience

•  CISSP, Security and/or Network Certification.
