BASIC FUNCTION:
The Data Program Engagement Leader fosters value creation from the use of M&T Bank’s data assets by leveraging the central data hub and alternative data sources. The ideal candidate enjoys problem-solving, has rigorous analytical skills, has a passion for solving large scale problems, and can effortlessly work on several projects simultaneously. With data being a key asset to the Bank, this is a high-visibility role in the organization with broad internal impact. We need someone who is passionate about data, analytics, and understands and can introduce new uses for leveraging our data through machine learning, AI, text analytics and how they can be applied for business value. You will be advisor and liaison to the business to identify opportunities to leverage these capabilities for business value and will work collaboratively with technology and other areas of the bank.
 
Innovative and a willingness to challenge traditional paradigms with an eye to collaboratively supporting businesses to extract value from data. You will need to be the primary evangelist to the business for the power of data and analytics, and in conjunction with key stakeholders throughout the bank, develop business cases to illustrate the potential for change in decision-making that occurs when you begin to anticipate what will happen, versus just reflecting on what has occurred. Introduce improved methods such as machine learning, deep learning, natural language processing technologies. Act as a data strategist and advisor to business lines and support functions. Ensures data is consistent, accurate and accessible for regulatory and business purposes. 
 
Provides short and long term strategic direction for several enterprise data applications in line with the goals of Enterprise Data Office.  Responsible for managing client relations and expectations as it relates to data.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Demonstrated leadership in applying and scaling analytic techniques to deliver actionable insights from data
Introduce new uses for leveraging our data through machine learning, AI, text analytics and other unstructured data
Strong written and verbal communication skills to influence others to take action
Demonstrated ability to handle multiple priorities
Comfortable working with diverse business scenarios and possessing strong thinking/problem-solving skills that can be applied to business processes with a 'can-do' attitude
Strong enthusiasm and curiosity about the intersection of business and technology
Responsible for overseeing specific units within Enterprise Data and monitoring the technology direction of the industry and vendor applications.
Organizes and controls the activities of the teams, assigns personnel to various projects and directs their activities.
Keeps abreast of activities outside the team that may impact enterprise data.
Completes status reports and must be able to present projects, status or activities to senior management.
Responsible for the job growth and career development of staff members by providing training plans, guidance and sharing knowledge.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
 
MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Number of staff varies.
 
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS:
Associates’ degree and a 10 year’s experience including 5 years of data related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 12 years’ higher education and/or data experience
Minimum of 2 years’ managerial or leadership experience
Experience working in Financial Services
Experience building a data driven culture
Excellent problem solving skills to assist in issue resolution
Excellent verbal and written communication skills with the ability to effectively present to the target audience
Excellent analytical, organization, project, and time management skills; strong judgment and management skills;
Must be able to assert ideas and gain support and commitment from others
Experience and skill in managing across functional and organizational lines
