Derivative Operations Analyst II One M&T Plaza - Buffalo, NY  
BASIC FUNCTION:
Provides analytical and operational support for Interest Rate Derivatives executed by Treasury Capital Markets as well as liability instruments executed by Treasury Portfolio Management group, ensuring strict adherence to established internal policies and external regulations.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Processes Interest Rate Derivative transactions received from the Capital Markets Front Office, inputting customer and trade details in the Derivatives System of record and including documenting the Bank’s commercial customer with strict adherence to the Bank’s customer identification procedure (CIP) as well as Treasury Operations’ customer setup procedures to comply with pertinent regulatory requirements.
Processes Interest Rate Derivative transactions by building the transaction in the system of record as well as creating and delivering the Trade Confirmation to the commercial counter-party, including the receipt of a fully executed confirmation.
Processes Interest Rate Derivative payments. Creates daily payment confirmation summaries, confirming all outgoing payments with street counterparties while researching and resolving any differences prior to settlement. Processes payments according to their prescribed payment method.
Processes principal and interest payments for the Bank’s liability portfolio. Creates monthly payment confirmation summaries according to type of liability, confirming all outgoing payments with street counterparties while researching and resolving any differences prior to settlement. Processes payments according to their prescribed payment method.
Completes regulatory reporting that is submitted to the Swap Data Repository (SDR) for Interest Rate Derivatives in accordance with Dodd-Frank Act Data recordkeeping and reporting requirements.
Completes simple ad-hoc analyses or act as Subject Matter Expert (SME) on an as needed basis according to Department, Division or Bank needs.
Maintains an understanding and adheres to the company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Maintains M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Completes other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Derivative Operations, part of Treasury Operations, directly supports the Treasury Division’s Capital Markets department which offers interest rate risk hedging products to the Bank’s commercial loan customers. Derivative Operations is responsible for processing trades executed by the Capital Markets group with the Bank’s commercial loan customers as well as trades done on behalf of the Bank for its’ own hedging purposes. In addition to supporting Capital Markets, Derivative Operations supports liability transactions issues by the Treasury Portfolio department on behalf of the Bank. In executing liability transactions and hedging instruments, it is important for the area to enforce regulatory compliance, confirm and verify settlements with counterparties, reconcile general ledger accounts and depository positions, execute transactions within time-critical windows controlled by the industry, accurately confirm trades and collect funds when due and ensure data integrity and system access controls are in place. Key internal clients include Commercial Banking and the Treasury Division. This position specifically supports the timely and accurate processing of these transactions.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in business-related field and a minimum of 1 year’s related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 1 year’s related experience.
Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent spreadsheet, word processing and email software.
Proven analytical skills.
Proven time management skills.
Proven verbal and written communications skills.
Detail-oriented.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, Mathematics or Statistics.
Understanding of Microsoft VBA (Visual Basic for Applications).
Ability to manage multiple, complex projects and prioritize workflow.
Ability to work individually as well as a member of a team.
Ability to interact with all levels of personnel.
Knowledge of pertinent Bank systems.
Understanding of SQL (Structured Query Language).
