Manage Corporate Communications team and direct PR/media relations strategies and tactics, including both earned and owned media, for Wilmington Trust (WT), across its multiple business lines and regions, in order to protect and promote WT’s corporate reputation, support its brand and help differentiate it from peers and competitors.  Lead the development, coordination and implementation of multiple integrated communications strategies and tactics, including earned media, social media, public relations and issues management.



Oversee the department managing all media contacts related to the WT businesses. Execute multiple high-profile public relations campaigns and communications projects simultaneously in coordination with WAS, CCS and bank executive management and Marketing & Communications Division.

Generate earned media to create and increase positive awareness and perception of its products/services among customers, prospects and stakeholders, and to position WT as a premier provider of personal and corporate wealth and trust services.

Utilize all appropriate communications channels to distribute positive information and manage the firms’s reputation, including earned media, social media and owned media (e.g. WT online NewsRoom).

Work with others inside and outside the Corporate Communications Department to develop, coordinate and implement public relations & communications plans for WT’s thought leadership, products, services, issues, activities, decisions, policies, personnel, etc. Develop appropriate messages, strategies and tactics for various target audiences, including national and financial media, trade media, customers, influencers and other opinion leaders.

Seek out and identify proactive media opportunities — as well as situations that could adversely impact the reputation of WT and/or M&T— and coordinate strategies and tactics to promote and protect those institutions.

Counsel management on communications strategies and tactics when issues, policies, or decisions threaten to impact the reputation of WT and/or M&T. Develop appropriate media responses and communications materials.

Cultivate strong working relationships with stakeholders within the firm, the industry, the community, and the media.

Monitor, measure and report all media coverage of the firm. Evaluate the success of media placements in building corporate reputation and mitigating crises and utilize learnings from outcomes to inform future strategic outreach.

Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.



The incumbent acts as a high-profile and highly visible representative of WT and M&T, and therefore must possess excellent writing, public speaking and media relations skills.  The incumbent must also have strong experience in applied public relation theories and concepts.  The incumbent must manage numerous important projects simultaneously.  The incumbent must be able to provide strategic, effective communications counsel to executive and regional management.



Directly manage Corporate Communications team member(s).



Bachelor’s Degree

10 years communications experience

5 years providing PR/communications counsel to senior-level executive management/principals



5 years experience in investment, wealth advisory and/or corporate trust business

Bachelor’s or Master’s Degree in journalism, mass communications, political science or related fields

Strategic thinking and decision-making ability; proven change management skills

Exceptional written and verbal communication skills

Superior project management skills

Strong interpersonal skills, with the ability to earn buy-in at all levels of management
