Job Description

Position Overview:
Performs employee relations responsibilities in support of the Employee Relations department to ensure the uniform and equitable application of organization policies and procedures while adhering to appropriate regulations. Balance multiple tasks, deliverables and deadlines in a fast-paced, highly confidential work environment.

Key Responsibilities:
Assist with the pre-screening process in regards to criminal background checks.
Robbery response - Contact branches to provide support and coordinate EAP for onsite employee support after robbery Incidents.
Provide support and ensure that all locations are compliant with required employment posters; act as primary point of contact with vendor.
Serves as a member of the employee relations solutions team including handling job eliminations, complaint investigations, corrective action consultation as assigned.
Oversees Solutions Team tracking in ER systems such as ER Case Management system for corrective action and possibly Ethics Point complaint management system
Handles calls related to ER policy matters including administration of the Sporadic Attendance policy, and general ER related issues raised by both managers and employees.
Assist in the Repayment Collection process.
Escalates as appropriate to the respective ER COE professional.
Prepares documentation and inputs to bank systems consistent with bank standards and practices.
Is responsible for various ER functions including but not limited to:
Responds to unemployment filings including reasons for termination, gathering supporting documentation and composing responses to the DOL questions. Also responds to document/record related subpoenas as directed.
Responsible for the personnel records filing of employee relations documentation.
Respond to inquiries regarding general personnel policies and procedures. Reports policies issues to corporate employee relations.
Consults with Human Resource employees specifically on employee relations issues. Prepares and presents presentations on ER related issues.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Nature and Scope:
The position is responsible for providing support for employee relations functions such as job eliminations notifications, exit interviews issues, routine employee complaints, and coordination of repayment collection program and will interact with all levels of personnel bank-wide.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Bachelor’s degree in Human Resources, Business Administration, Communication or related field and a minimum of 1 year HR generalist or employee relations experience including employee relations counseling or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 5 years higher education and/or work experience including 1 year HR generalist or employee relations experience including employee relations counseling.
Demonstrated knowledge of employment laws and demonstrated current experience in application of HR principles and practices.
Flexibility in work schedules and travels as needed.
Proficiency in Windows-based software.

Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
Master’s Degree in related field.
Human Resources Certification (PHR/SPHR, SHRM-CP/SHRM-SCP).
Proven ability to analyze problems and situations and recommend appropriate courses of action.
Detailed knowledge of employment law and regulations.
Internal investigations experience.
Strong interpersonal and presentation skills.
Effectively able to defuse the irate or emotional caller.
Ability to consistently demonstrate courtesy, helpfulness, professionalism, empathy and politeness.
Ability to display integrity and respect of the client by maintaining confidentiality on issues.
Strong consulting and influencing skills.
Excellent oral and written communication skills, as well as customer service skills.
Proven experience in a customer service environment.
