Financial Analysis Manager I Buffalo, NY   The Profitability Group serves as a partner to senior and executive management to drive improvement of business, product and customer profitability and  returns through informed management decisions.   The Candidate will conduct activities required to execute cost transfers across the bank. Contribute to the evolution of our cost management function into a comprehensive enterprise-wide, best in class capability for the bank. Conduct activities to support all facets of profitability modernization and program management (e.g. Governance, Ad Hoc Analysis, and Project Management).   Essential Position Responsibilities Direct the day-to-day operations and projects relating to the overall bank’s or business segment’s financial status. Provide key financial analyses and management reporting by managing various monthly reporting processes, reviewing data, resolving problems, and presenting data to senior management.  Oversee ad hoc reporting such as acquisition analyses, cash flow projections, etc. to support management decisions. Participate in the development and implementation of Finance department goals. Communicate and provide direction with senior management regarding fiscal policies. Exercise managerial authority over staff with respect to hiring, termination, salary recommendations, and performance appraisals.   Expanded Position Responsibilities: Build and maintain cost models; Perform detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex modeling scenarios/activities.  Work in collaboration with business groups to provide insightful analysis. Conduct and maintain cost studies which establish the basis for cost transfers. Maintain rules that govern cost assignments. Perform routine residual analysis to ensure that cost information continues to reflect the economics of the business.  Contribute to the creation of accurate, transparent picture of cost and revenue drivers, volume, productivity metrics, and scale impacts across business lines, products, customers and geographies   Work on various bank-wide profitability initiatives including unit costing, value chain analysis, and others as they evolve. Make recommendations within context of job responsibilities; offer guidance on matters of significance. Utilize analytics and reporting applications to provide reports used to drive proactive insight into the profitability and behavior of businesses, customers, and products. Utilize productivity and capacity analysis to suggest actions for improvement. Participate in the creation of sustainable process and implementation of a technology solution to calculate and report multidimensional profitability on a monthly basis. Support efforts to enhance the dialogue across the enterprise on cost management, create transparency, and improve governance and execution. Support creation and population of cost library for the enterprise.   Minimum Qualifications Bachelors’ degree in Finance, Accounting or Business Administration, or the equivalent in work experience. Five years finance experience. One year supervisory experience.   Ideal Qualifications Preferred: MBA or advanced degree preferred. Knowledge of the financial services industry as well as the bank’s internal structure and functions Ability to grasp the issue at hand, considers alternatives when there is no defined method or solutions to follow, consult with others if necessary and propose/recommend solutions Ability to adapt to new directions or job requirements as our methodology and tools evolve Looks forward to assimilating knowledge, techniques, and information via others, self-led or formal training Ability to “picture” what the situation or issue might be and communicate it to others Critical thinking capability using data and other available information, ability to create and support a story/explanation using information at hand Ability to communicate ideas effectively and concisely to a broad and senior audience using visual tools such as charts, graphs and other visualizations Ability to compile information from multiple sources using different technical applications  into concise, easy-to-understand ideas and themes Ability to brainstorm, plan and execute an effort from start to finish – from analysis to presentation   Technical Skills Excellent personal computer skills with solid knowledge of Microsoft Office and other departmental software/systems. Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills. Excellent personal computer skills and high level of competence with the Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and specialized reporting and data visualization application competencies utilized by M&T (e.g. Tableau, ESSBASE, Oracle, OROS or other cost modeling software, (Hyperion)
