Financial Analyst II - Controller

FUNCTION:
Assist in monthly accounting preparation and reporting to provide Bank management with financial data and analysis for use in setting and obtaining Bank objectives. Assist and participate in projects that include the development of financial accounting policies and procedures. May act as lead on routine projects.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Prepare monthly consolidation of Bank and non-Bank subsidiaries of the Corporation. Prepare monthly financial reports, including month-end close process. Assist in the quarterly and annual financial reporting process.
Prepare financial statements for the Corporation’s various subsidiaries including bank regulatory reports, SEC reporting, reports to shareholders and the Board of Directors, as well as internal management reports and M&T’s quarterly earnings releases.
Lead the preparation of account reconciliations, reports, and documentation used in reconciliation of financial statements.
Support department’s monthly and day-to-day operational processes through various, more complex financial analyses.
Perform various accounting functions to include monthly yield analysis, various analytical reconciliations, test of accounting data integrity, and general ledger entries, ensuring adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, SEC disclosure requirements, as well as bank regulatory requirements.
Actively participate in interpreting and analyzing financial information and presenting results.
Research and compile data to provide management with financial trends.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The incumbent works under the supervision of managers or more senior Accounting Analysts.
The position has contact with other internal bank departments as well as with external auditors and attorneys.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
Not Applicable.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Business or economics, with a significant accounting concentration.
Proficient in word processing and spreadsheet software.
Detail oriented.
Strong organizational skills with emphasis placed on detail and the ability to work effectively under time constraints.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
Ability to analyze financial data and identify trends, variations or other factors for further investigation.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
2 years’ experience in accounting or banking.
Database software proficiency.
Ability to quickly learn various application systems to readily understand output from those systems.
