Financial Analyst III Buffalo, NY   Opportunity Among other functions, the Financial Planning & Analysis group is responsible for coordination and analysis of the planning and forecasting activities for M&T Bank.  The group reviews and analyzes financial results against projections, and provides critical evaluation of forecasted and actual performance to management for assessment and action.  In addition, the group prepares regular and ad hoc financial analyses and reports to assist senior management in making decisions.  This senior analyst position will be involved in all aspects of the bank’s planning and forecasting processes, assist in consolidating and analyzing business projections and actual results, and perform other ad hoc financial analyses as requested by management. The analyst will conduct research and analysis projects to provide senior management with definitive financial data and advice for their use in setting and realizing profit objectives.   Essential Position Responsibilities § Assists in the coordination and analyses of the annual planning process and business unit forecasts. § Build and maintain planning tools and templates to ensure effective and efficient processes. § Consolidation of SBU and legal entity projections, including income statement and balance sheet components. § Formulate new analytical reports to improve information resources available to senior management. § Conduct independent research and analytical tasks involving reporting and forecasting to provide senior management with financial data and advice used to make informed decisions. § Initiate improvements to reporting and forecasting capabilities in order to generate meaningful financial data to better serve senior management team and facilitate decision-making. § Assemble, compile, analyze information, and resolve errors/inconsistencies in data from financial reporting systems. § Work with financial systems support group to prepare and enhance planning/forecasting and monthly reporting processes. § Conducts monthly variance analyses and creates schedules for performance measurement and tracking. § Provide leadership to senior management on the establishment of profitability tools and metrics for business units. § Assist in training junior financial analysts. May exercise supervisory/work guidance over direct or indirect reports. § Make recommendations within context of job responsibilities; offer guidance on matters of significance. § Perform detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex scenarios and forecasting activities. Build and maintain forecasting models; work in collaboration with business groups to provide insightful analysis. § Develop strong partnerships within Finance Division and with Business Line managers to gain an understanding of underlying business drivers and issues that may affect financial performance.   § Design and lead projects significant in scope and visibility.   § Perform other assignments as requested by management.   Nature and Scope The incumbent works under very limited supervision and exercises significant latitude over work assignments. The position requires regular contact and communication with both Finance Division and Business Line personnel, including senior management.    Supervisory Responsibility
May have 1 to 3 direct or indirect reports.  
Minimum Qualifications
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting and a minimum of five years work experience or in lieu of a degree a total of nine years in relevant work experience.

Preferred Qualifications
MBA or advanced degree
Technical Skills Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills. High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and mainframe applications as necessary.   Other Job Information In-depth knowledge of job responsibilities and departmental procedures and policies. Knowledgeable of the financial services industry as well as the bank’s internal structure and functions. Understand the Division s function and its impact on the corporation. Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and prioritizes workflow as necessary. Excellent analytical skills. Strong verbal and written communication skills. Deadline oriented and results driven.
