Job Description

Function:
Conduct advanced financial research and analysis projects with a large amount of independence. Advise senior management in an expert capacity.

Nature and Scope
This role is in the Profitability Group under Finance Department. This group is a relative new function in Finance and faces many new challenges to understand the revenue and expense structures of lines of businesses, products, and customers, and ultimately provides insights and recommendations to the management on how to improve the profitability of the Bank.

This role’s primary responsibilities include but are not limited to building, improving and executing costing methodology, models, and associated reporting with large amount of complex data. Strong analytical ability, creative problem solving skills, and great business sense are required for this position.

The incumbent works under very limited supervision and exercises significant latitude over work assignments.
The position requires regular contact with both internal and external personnel to include outside agencies/firms.

Responsibilities:
Perform detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex modeling scenarios/activities with a large amount of independence. Build and maintain advanced forecasting models; work in collaboration with business groups to provide insightful analysis.
Conduct independent research and complex analytical projects involving modeling/forecasting to provide senior management with definitive financial trend data and advice for their use in setting and realizing profit objectives.
Perform complex ad hoc reporting such as acquisition analyses, cash flow projections, etc. to support management decisions.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

May have 1 to 3 direct or indirect reports


Minimum Qualifications:

Bachelors’ degree in Finance or Accounting and a minimum of 7 years related experience or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 11 years higher education including 7 years related experience



Ideal Qualifications

MBA or advanced degree such as CFA or equivalent in Finance, Math, Economics, or Engineering preferred.
Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills.

Experience in Oracle OFSAA is preferred.

Proficiency in the use of SQL and SAS is beneficial.
High level of PC competencies (Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access)  
Experience in Activity Based Costing and / or Profitability Reporting and Analysis preferred.

In-depth knowledge of job responsibilities and departmental procedures and policies
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time and prioritizes workflow as necessary
Excellent analytical skills
Strong verbal and written communication skills
Deadline oriented and results driven
Understand the Division’s function and its impact on the corporation.
Knowledgeable of the financial services industry as well as the bank’s internal structure and functions
