Job Description

The Profitability Group serves as a partner to senior and executive management to drive informed management and improvement for businesses, products, and customers as well as accountability for performance through the lens of profitability and return analysis.

Conduct advanced financial research and analysis projects that focus on profitability, FTP and Capital, and analytics to provide senior management with definitive financial data and advice for their use in setting and realizing profit objectives with a large amount of independence. Advise senior management in an expert capacity.

Perform detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex modeling scenarios/activities with a large amount of independence. Build and maintain advanced forecasting models; work in collaboration with business groups to provide insightful analysis.
Conduct independent research and complex analytical projects involving modeling/forecasting to provide senior management with definitive financial trend data and advice for their use in setting and realizing profit objectives.
Perform complex ad hoc reporting such as acquisition analyses, cash flow projections, etc. to support management decisions.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned. 

Other Job Information:
Contribute to the creation of accurate, transparent picture of revenue and capital drivers, volume, productivity metrics, and scale impacts across business lines, products, customers and geographies

Support development of profitability guiding principles across costs, new business pricing, and capital allocation

Assist with creation and execution of FTP modernization and new business comparable reporting as needed

Assist with development, management and updating of new business proforma and pricing tools as required

Utilize analytics and reporting applications to provide reports used to drive proactive insight into the profitability and behavior of businesses, customers, and products

Apply knowledge of profitability, analytics, and efficiency improvements to develop bank-wide business strategies focused on resource optimization.

Utilize benchmarking and productivity analysis to suggest actions for improvement

Participate in the creation of sustainable process and implementation of a technology solution to calculate and report multidimensional profitability on a monthly basis

Design reporting and method standards with high quality dashboards, visualizations and analytics

May have 1 to 3 direct or indirect reports

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors’ degree in Finance or Accounting and a minimum of 7 years related experience or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 11 years higher education including 7 years related experience

Ideal Qualifications:
Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills.

Knowledge of the financial services industry as well as the bank’s internal structure and functions

Critical thinking capability using data and other available information, ability to create and support a story/explanation using information at hand

Looks forward to assimilating knowledge, techniques, and information via others, self-led or formal training

Ability to grasp the issue at hand, considers alternatives, consult with other if necessary and propose/recommend solutions

Ability to adapt to new directions or job requirements

Ability to understand the issue or problem at hand and provide solutions whereby there is no defined method or solutions to follow

Ability to “picture” what the situation or issue might be and communicate it to others

Ability to communicate ideas effectively and concisely to a broad and senior audience using visual tools such as charts, graphs and other visualizations

Ability to compile information from multiple sources into concise, easy-to-understand ideas and themes

Ability to brainstorm, plan and execute an effort from start to finish – from analysis to presentation
