FUNCTION:

Processes and verifies foreign exchange transactions for Bank customers and internal departments, ensuring strict adherence to established internal policies and external regulations.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

•  Complete daily processing of foreign exchange transactions, including trades with customers and counterparties and currency payments for branch customers, in a timely and accurate manner, while ensuring strict adherence to pertinent internal policies and external regulations.

•  Enter new customer information into the appropriate system following Customer Identification Program (CIP) requirements to comply with pertinent internal policies and external regulations.

•  Analyze and approve exceptions such as reconciliation outages and inconsistencies on daily risk management reports. 

•  Maintain the currency and accuracy of supporting procedures and processes.

•  Anticipate obstacles to proper work completion and proactively identify process improvements and escalate to management to increase efficiency and mitigate risk in Foreign Exchange Operations.

•  Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

•  Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

•  Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

•  Complete other related duties as assigned.

•  Foreign Exchange Operations, part of Treasury Operations, processes foreign exchange trades with customers and counterparties and currency payments for branch customers.  In executing these transactions, it is important for the area to enforce regulatory compliance, confirm and verify settlements with counterparties, reconcile general ledger accounts and depository positions, accurately confirm trades and collect funds when due and ensure data integrity and system access controls are in place.  Internal clients include Commercial Banking, Correspondent Banking, Institutional Banking and the Treasury Division.  This position specifically supports the timely and accurate processing of these transactions.

 

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

•  Bachelor’s degree, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 4 years’ higher education and/or work experience.

•  Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent spreadsheet, word processing and email software.

•  Proven analytical skills.

•  Proven problem-solving skills.

•  Proven time management skills.

•  Proven verbal and written communications skills.

•  Detail-oriented.

 

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

•  Minimum of 1 year’s proven operations, accounting or finance experience in banking.

•  Ability to manage multiple, complex projects in a fast-paced environment.

•  Knowledge of pertinent Bank systems.
