Interest Rate Hedging Associate Baltimore, MD  

BASIC FUNCTION: Working within Treasury Capital Markets with a small team of interest rate risk and foreign exchange specialists located in Baltimore and Buffalo, conducts needs assessment of commercial customers for rate lock and basic derivatives products based on customer-specific objectives.  Sales, communication and presentation skills and prior experience with loan documentation are desirable in providing sales support to Derivative Sales management and Commercial Banking Relationship Managers in prospecting new interest rate hedging business, as well as administering trades, including associated regulatory, operational, documentary and credit risk.  Provides pre-and post-trade customer service to derivatives customers.
  POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Conduct needs assessment of current and potential Commercial Banking customers to determine their needs for rate lock and basic derivatives products and services.  Based on identified needs, determine the appropriate Bank products to meet these needs, creating individualized customer solutions within established parameters. Support the sale and administration of interest rate hedging products, including pricing hedging products and preparing sales proposals, pre-call planning with Relationship Managers specific to rate locks and basic derivative opportunities, training Relationship Managers on rate locks and basic derivatives, pipeline reporting on potential business opportunities, remediating open items related to potential or completed transactions, assisting Treasury Operations with questions and information on documentation gaps and providing high-level service to customers or Relationship Managers on derivatives-related transactions. Support the generation of future rate lock sales across the Mid-Atlantic region by developing and maintaining close working relationships with Commercial Banking and Business Banking Relationship Managers to drive cross-sell opportunities for interest rate derivative products and services.  Assist Relationship Managers by proactively providing them reporting on potential prospects for rate lock products to support meeting annual sales goals. Facilitate the integration of interest rate hedging into relationship planning, including by participating in portfolio review sessions to identify potential hedging opportunities. Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned.   NATURE AND SCOPE: This position is responsible for identifying the individual needs of Commercial Banking customers for rate lock and basic derivatives solutions and determining the best product to meet these needs.  As such the position has direct contact with current and potential customers.  The position is also responsible for revenue generation of the Regional future rate lock business and assisting the Regional Derivatives Sales Manager in generating revenue for the entire interest rates derivatives solution set.  As such, the position requires the ability to work with customers to develop future rate lock hedging solutions to meet their needs and risk appetite while ensuring regulatory compliance and adherence to Bank standards.  The position must develop and maintain working relationships with Commercial Bank Relationship Managers to prospect new customers and expand existing customer relationships with interest rate derivatives products and services.  To support these efforts, the position trains and educates customer and prospects as well as Relationship Managers on future rate locks utilized to manage interest rate risk as well as the dynamics of the markets.   MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY: Not applicable   MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting, Finance, Economics or related field and minimum of 1 years’ banking or finance experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 5 years’ higher education and/or related work experience, including a minimum of 1 years’ banking or finance experience. Strong quantitative, financial and economic skills. Strong analytical skills. Strong presentation skills.   IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: Master’s degree in Business Administration (MBA) or Chartered Financial Analyst. Three years’ of corporate banking experience.
