IT Project Manager IV
Buffalo, NY
Responsible for management, planning, tracking, communication of status, documentation, test results and the implementation of technical aspects of business projects or technology driven projects. Facilitates activities for enterprise projects and oversees the work of other Project Managers. Responsible for directing the more complex, high risk, large scope efforts and concurrently managing several projects.
  • Organizes an overall technical project plan and makes detailed plans for the upcoming stages, to include activities to be performed, estimated time frame and effort.
  • Ensures adherence to all current project methodology standards and procedures, including all documentation requirements.
  • Reviews business requirements and may assist in translating requirements into functional specifications and systems designs. May provide analytical support to other team members and client groups in defining requirements.
  • May manage the entire technical assessment process. Prepares initial project costs; tracks actual costs during the life of a project. Reports on project cost variances.
  • May manage projects, which are considered high risk, extremely complex, or enterprise wide in size.
  • Identifies people who can do the work required for the project and obtains commitment of their time from their managers. Directs and monitors resources; ensures completion of schedules. Applies pressure on a regular basis for the project to move forward.
  • Completes status reports and presents deliverables for project milestones to senior management, the Project Sponsor and the PCC.
  • Provides input to managers for performance appraisals based upon project participants’ performance.
  • Recognizes technical, business and operational impacts of a project. Brings issues to resolution and escalates issues or concerns to the Project Sponsor.
  • Schedules and facilitates project meetings, publishes meeting minutes, tracks impact and issue documents.
  • Effectively communicates and develops a professional level of cooperation across the organization.
  • Initiates or participates in the request for proposal process, including vendor management.
  • The incumbent is responsible for the overall coordination and management of any scope technology effort, which could include BAU, discretionary, conversion or system release projects.
  • The Project Manager IV directs the activities of the project participants and may oversee the activities of the Project Managers, however may not have direct supervisory responsibilities.
  • The incumbent is competent to work independently.
  • The Project Manager IV interacts with senior managers across the organization, technology personnel, various business units and vendors.
  • The Project Manager IV may be called upon to serve as a technology representative on committees, ad-hoc projects.
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 6 years’ proven project management experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 10 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 6 years’ proven project management experience.
Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages. Sound knowledge of project management methodology. Strong verbal and written communication skills, particularly an ability to negotiate, influence and gain consensus. Regularly communicates verbally and in writing with senior management on status of initiatives, in a professional and understandable manner.
Excellent problem-solving skills. Ability to work individually as well as a member of a team. Self-motivated, results-driven and well-organized individual. Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time constraints in support of various assignments. Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management and peers). Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside the organization.
Project Management Professional (PMP) certification.
