The Opportunity:
Responsible for managing an assigned portfolio for open or non-performing assets, mitigating loss situations and reducing potential losses to the Bank. Must adhere to the requirements of federal registration under the SAFE Act.
Primary Responsibilities:

Participate in loss prevention by employing advanced strategies that provide adequate protection for M&T’s interest in collateral securing defaulted mortgage loans while maximizing cost containment opportunities.
Work closely with business partners and vendors to ensure invoicing services provided are meeting predetermined service level agreements.
Ensure timely reconciliation of the most complex loan level situations of mortgagor and third party recoverable accounts based on the workout option completed by the borrower. 
Record and book losses for all loss mitigation departments.
Maintain specialized reports to ensure recovery of funds from investors based on the workout option completed by the borrower. 
Lead departmental projects for process improvement as assigned by management.
Perform cost analysis and trending of losses for all Loss Mitigation departments and recommend solutions to management.
Provide training to new staff members and serve as subject matter expert to the team in the absence of management. 
Quality check and provide feedback to team members.
Update and maintain error log and trending of documented errors.
Maintain relationships with investors, business partners and vendors. 
Share information with department staff concerning those relationships.
Review and update department procedures where necessary.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Complete other related duties as assigned by management.
Minimum Qualifications Required:

Associates’ degree and a minimum of 2 years’ mortgage servicing or related experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined 6 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 2 years’ mortgage servicing or related experience.
Two years loss mitigation experience, post-modification reconciliations
Proficiency with word processing and spreadsheet software.
Strong analytical skills.
Accounting experience.
Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
Bachelor's degree.
Prior departmental experience.
