Job Description

Schedule:  Monday - Friday 8am-5pm

 

The Opportunity:

Responsible for conducting on site visits to Outreach and/or Mediation events established by the bank, government officials or various third party groups, conducting face-to-face interviews with defaulted customers, mediators, attorneys and/or court representatives to gather information for loss mitigation review and reduce potential losses to the bank.

Primary Responsibilities:

Organize and/or participate in mortgage mediation/outreach events. This includes planning, travel arrangements, solicitations, call campaigns and coordinating offsite events in addition to coordinating marketing and call campaigns for each event.

Conduct interviews, at customer properties or other locations designated by the bank, of customers having defaulted on their accounts with the aim of establishing contact with the customer, reviewing financial information and discussing workout options,

Conduct face-to-face interviews with customers located near a branch location throughout the U.S.  to discuss loss mitigation options.

Appear with counsel at mediations on behalf of M&T Bank.

Attend foreclosure court appearances to testify to bank records.

Organize multiple account assignments to be visited in such a way to ensure maximum efficiency of geographic route.

Document written reports for internal purposes on each account where a field visit was completed to confirm compliance with FHA and State requirements.

Manage inbound/outbound mediation calls with attorneys

Make telephone contact attempts to, or take inbound calls from, delinquent borrowers to discuss loss mitigation options.

Develop and maintain thorough understanding of the business and its functions, processes and operations.

Keep abreast of state and federal regulations and bank policies with thorough understanding of local laws and regulations.

Keep abreast of business and market trends that may affect the department.

Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. 

Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

Responsible for meeting and maintaining registration requirements under the Federal SAFE Act.

Complete other related duties as assigned.

Nature and Scope:

The position is critical to M&T as a resource for providing face-to-face contact to discuss loss mitigation options. This position entails representing M&T on loss mitigation files with the goal of reducing risk related exposure to the bank. The ideal candidate should display strong written and communication skills, in addition to a robust work ethic and ability to work independently. Maintaining a professional appearance as a representative of the bank is emphasized.

Minimum Qualifications Required:

Associate’s Degree plus 2 years’ mortgage collection or face-to-face customer interaction experience or, in lieu of degree, 4 years’ experience in mortgage collections or loss mitigation experience.

Valid drivers’ license.

Strong knowledge of current default servicing guidelines and regulations for Government, Conventional, and Private Mortgage loans.

Ability to travel regularly; amount depends on portfolio of business assigned.

 

Ideal Qualifications Preferred:

Bachelor’s degree.

Computing skills with knowledge of Microsoft Excel and Word. LPS Director experience is a plus.

Understanding of collections servicing systems.

Physical Requirements:

Ability to lift up to 15 pounds.

Ability to walk up and down stairs (at properties) as needed.

Ability to sit for long periods of time (due to air and ground travel).
