Job Description

Basic Function:
Establish and manage the strategic direction and program for managing third-party risk management and strategy for the enterprise, including oversight of program to identify and mitigate third-party risk stemming from all third-party engagements for M&T

Position Responsibilities:
Understand and adhere to the M&T's risk and regulatory standards, policies, and controls in accordance with M&T's Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain, and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management. Manage team of third-party risk analysts in supporting internal clients in their engagement of third-parties to identify, understand, and manage risks stemming from the engagement of third-parties
Manage the design, implementation, execution, and enforcement of third-party risk policies and procedures utilizing an effective and consistent third-party risk program, communicating risks to senior management and recommending corrective measures to ensure the risks stemming from M&T's engagement of third-parties are effectively and consistently managed within stated risk tolerances of the enterprise
In partnership with Legal, Compliance, Risk, Audit, Enterprise Security and Cybersecurity, and other internal resources, coordinate and enhance third-party risk management requirements 
Ensure activities managed are compliant with applicable laws and regulations and/or that support M&T's compliance with laws and regulations applicable to supported business lines, including ensuring the third-party risk management program is compliant with with Federal Reserve Bank (FRB), Federal Deposit Insurance Corporation (FDIC), Office of the Comptroller of Currency (OCC), Federal Financial Institutions Examination Council (FFIEC) and Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) third-party risk management guidelines
Provide regular updates to senior management, including the Board of Directors, on individual third-party risks, the third-party risk program, and M&T's exposure to third-party risk in general to ensure their awareness of pertinent issues.
Provide regular updates to various regulatory agencies which oversee M&T and its subsidiaries, to validate compliance with regulatory expectations, address any concerns or questions, and bring general awareness of M&T's approach to managing third-party risk
Guide and support clients adherence to the enterprise's various risk and regulatory requirements, including design, implementation, and maintenance of internal controls to identify and mitigate risk arising from third-party engagements
Recommends and initiates new policies and procedures which will improve the performance and effectiveness of the department.
Responsible for the job growth and career development of staff members by providing training plans, guidance and sharing knowledge.
Provide guidance to analysts on how to handle and approach the effective challenge of internal and external stakeholders participating in the Third-Party Risk Management program.
Provide regular updates to various regulatory agencies which oversee M&T and its subsidiaries, to validate compliance with regulatory expectations, address any concerns or questions, and bring general awareness of M&T's approach to managing third-party risk.

Minimum Qualifications:
Bachelors degree and a minimum of 8 years’ proven experience in audit, compliance, risk management, vendor management or quality control
or in lieu of a  degree, a combined minimum of 12 years’ higher education and/or work experience
