Job Title:  Merchant Services Risk Management Administrator

Function:
• Responsible for managing risk on an organization-wide basis encompassing approximately 15,000 merchants with an 8 billion dollar portfolio. Act as a liaison to the Financial Crimes Division and Card Services Departments for transaction and charge-back monitoring.

Position Responsibilities:
• Review and decision Merchant Guidance Line credit applications in accordance with M&T’s Tier II Credit Policy. Ensure loan falls into appropriate credit parameters. Discuss credit issues with relationship managers. Review for legal issues.
• Manage Guidance Line Renewal process and ensure Guidance Lines are renewed in a timely manner.
• Ensure accuracy of guidance line amounts on AFS system.
• Investigate and report on risks that have a potential impact on the Bank, determining whether they can be eliminated or minimized.
• Act in a liaison capacity and meet regularly with other Bank departments regarding risk related issues.
• Review overdraft reporting, charge-back reporting and approval process for any risk related issues that should be brought to Senior Management’s attention.
• Review all high risk merchant guidance lines for accurate credit approval on an ongoing basis.
• Ensure that the process of Grade 7 (substandard loan grades) and above loan approvals is performed quarterly by the documentation specialist.
• Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
• Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
• Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
• Complete other related duties as assigned.

Nature and Scope:
• The position’s main responsibility is the credit review of new Merchant Guidance Lines for prospective merchants and presenting recommended decisions to the appropriate final approver.
• Other responsibilities include management of guidance line renewals in order to reduce the amount of risk incurred by the Bank due to the credit deterioration of merchants. Also, the review of under/over guidance line reporting to confirm that all existing guidance lines on the AFS system match the FDR system.
• There is extensive interaction with internal Bank personnel.

Minimum Qualifications Required:
• Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 2 years credit or relevant industry experience or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 6 years higher education and/or work experience including a minimum of 2 years credit or relevant industry experience.
• Solid PC skills;  familiarity with Windows and PC software programs.

Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
• Bachelor’s degree in Business, Finance, Marketing or MIS.
• Thorough knowledge of the software applications utilized in department.
• Proficient in the use of spreadsheets, graphing, and presentations with a general knowledge of financial models.
• Strong analytical and problem solving skills.
• Self-motivated, detail oriented, well-organized individual.
• Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
• Ability to work under critical time constraints.
• Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management, and peers).
• Ability to work independently and function as a member of a project team.
