Job Description

BASIC FUNCTION:
Responsible for the development, management and execution of enterprise level process re-engineering efforts crossing one or more business lines. Uses tools from Six Sigma, LEAN, Project Management and Change Management to consult with the business and executive management to develop strategic recommendations to improve Bank-wide and cross-business processes and programs at an enterprise level.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Responsible for the delivery of large scale Strategic Process Re-engineering Projects that impact one or more divisions and business lines. Projects result in large scale changes to the Bank and its operations and result in significant financial and risk benefits to the Bank. Efforts are focused on reducing costs, cycle time, errors and risk, encompassing the concepts of LEAN, Six Sigma, Change Management, and Problem Solving Methodologies.
Lead process re-engineering initiatives and teams focused on reducing costs, cycle time, errors and risk encompassing the concepts of LEAN, Six Sigma, Change Management, and Problem Solving Methodologies.
Prepare and execute related project plans to provide a framework for the project as well as regular updates and status reports.
Communicate Process Re-engineering efforts to Senior Managers through formal and informal channels to ensure their awareness and support as well as identify any issues.
Implement measurement tools to track organizational improvement resulting from implementation of approved Process Re-engineering Projects.
Facilitate decision-making sessions with senior managers across multiple areas of the Bank with the objective of obtaining consensus and direction on organizational change and Project and Process efforts.
May support process improvement and change management training efforts.
Develop business case and project benefits and monitor actual results against projected benefits. Work to incorporate benefits into Bank financial plan.
Coach and mentor less experienced process practitioners, business partners, and participants in Bank-wide process excellence training programs on process improvement methodologies and change management.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
May exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
Manages and executes Process Re-engineering projects impacting one or more divisions and business lines to improve efficiency, reduce expenses and provide improved service to customers.
Champions change and drives innovative solutions through approved transformational programs.
Responsible for internal and external stakeholder management related to programs managed for assigned efforts.
The position has responsibility for operational risk associated with assigned process excellence programs.
The position has approval and signing authority within established limits.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
May directly manage a team of 1-5 Analysts and/or Process Re-engineering Managers; indirectly manages a project team of 30 .

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree and a minimum of 5 years’ proven and progressive Process Improvement/Re-engineering experience or minimum of 6 years’ proven and progressive Project Management/general management experience, OR in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ proven and progressive Process Improvement/Re-engineering experience or a minimum of 6 years’ proven and progressive Project Management/general management experience.
Proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent software packages.
Knowledge of process improvement methodology and business process management techniques.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills, particularly an ability to negotiate, influence and gain consensus.
Regularly communicates verbally and in writing with senior managers on status of initiatives, in a professional and understandable manner.
Curious and innovative; champions change and strategic solutions.
Excellent problem-solving and decision-making skills.
Ability to work individually as well as a member of a team.
Self-motivated, results-driven and well-organized individual.
Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time constraints in support of various assignments.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
Master’s degree.
Track record of proven process management results.
LEAN certified, and/or Six Sigma Black Belt certified.
