Position: Product Manager (Leader) - Product Deployment & Planning

Location: M&T Center, Buffalo, NY


Responsible for leading product launch efforts and annual/monthly plans that support Payment and Receivable services.  Position will define plans for (and execute):  marketing, education, client on-boarding, and client agreement efforts that are required to bring a new or improved products to-Market.  This position also works with other Product Managers to help ensure their product improvements have a defined path/process to complete their associated marketing plans, communication tasks, risk reviews, etc. to support go-live efforts.



  • Sets strategic direction for assigned products, and presents business plans to senior management and employees (publish three year Road Map).
  • Lead the review new developments in company markets, and researches, evaluates and recommends business cases for new services or new products, or the modification of existing services or products.
  • Research and maintain an awareness of new trends, vendor improvements, and developments in marketing and company products and services.
  • Lead teams and manage all aspects of new product implementation and existing product modification to include but not limited to the design and development of services, portfolio acquisition and process improvements; act in a liaison capacity with affected departments.
  • Initiate and establish marketing and communication plans; work with other Bank departments to develop effective programs to sell services/products.
  • Evaluate new product/services success; drive recommendations for changes in service or marketing strategy. Recommend product pricing, understanding the cost structure.
  • Lead large scale projects and guide associated team.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.
  • Lead the development annual Product Technology plan for needed product improvements (eg, collect department staff input, publish final plan, etc.) and lead monthly Department project reviews to ensure plans make progress
  • Lead staff through annual Competitive review process and internal communications to ensure staff centralizes competitive Bank product research and changes 
  • Ensure product staff has documented framework to follow so that new service roll-outs have a documented framework/process for staff to meet key risk, marketing, legal, audit approvals, etc before new services go-live
  • Lead marketing plans for specific assigned large-scale projects (and draft the associated marketing collateral)
  • As applicable, exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.

  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

  • Complete other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:

  • Bachelor’s degree
  • 5 years’ proven marketing, product management, financial, operations and/or project management experience, or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 5 years’ proven marketing, product management, financial, operations and/or project management experience.

Preferred Qualifications:

  • Masters Degree preferred. 
  • Ten (10) years in Product Management or Technology directly related to Treasury Management Payments.

  • Five (5) years Commercial Banking experience. 

  • Experience developing strategic plans and marketing analyses. 

  • Understanding of payments industry 

  • Excellent quantitative skills and writing ability required.
  • Attention to deep detail, deliver quality documentation, and strong presentation skills.
  • Prior implementations of product improvements and timely follow-through on variety of tasks.
  • Demonstrated ability to work with a broad variety of people in a leadership capacity.
