Regional Chief of Operations - Western Region

Wilmington Trust

Century City, CA


Basic Functions:

Responsible for accounting and financial reporting.  Oversee the daily financial operations and administration of the Department, which include general accounting, accounts payable, corporate reporting and accounting policy.


Essential Position Responsibilities:

Oversee the development, planning and recommendation of practices and procedures for the proper expense and financial controls of the Western Region.

Oversight on sales reporting including the running of profitability tools on every piece of new business in the Western Region.

Work with the Regional President to develop sales activity goals and metrics that tie into the overall performance of the Region.  Ensure that sales activity is recorded into Sales Logix and produce reports that track the effectiveness of the sales force in sourcing and closing new business.  These systems should tie into the Sales and Business Plans of the Private Client Advisor (PCA).

Develop analytical tools to help understand the capacity of each Relationship Manager, Investment Advisor and Fiduciary Advisor book of business.  These tools will be essential in projecting when we need to hire new talent and plan for growth.

Work with the Senior Investment Advisor to ensure we have the quality controls on trading and other compliance related matters.

Work with Senior Fiduciary Advisor to ensure we have the proper controls and efficiencies to manage fiduciary risk both within our existing book and new business that we are bringing to the bank.

Work with the Regional President to develop an annual planning calendar and metrics to track progress on goals.

Work with the Regional President and Senior Management of the firm to develop an expansion strategy along with pro-forma financial statements that includes any of the following scenarios

• New office in a geographic location that is within an existing footprint of either a Wilmington Trust or M & T Office

• New office in a geographic location that doesn’t have a current Wilmington Trust or M & T Office.

• Acquisition of an RIA or Trust Company.

Coordinate Regulatory audits, overseeing preparation of requested materials

Exercise the usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations and terminations.

Work with the Regional President to develop strategies to increase the morale of the team within the Western Region.

Work with the Regional President and the local team to develop better efficiencies in the running of our book of business.

Work with the Regional President and the local team to develop a better client and employee experience.

Responsible for the successful onboarding of new employees.


Nature & Scope:

This position will be responsible for all accounting and financial aspects of the Western Region of Wilmington Trust.  This will include Human Resources responsibilities.  They will help the President of the Western Region expand our presence into new markets.  Additionally, this person will support the Regional President in working with the team to retain clients, add new clients, risk management, compliance, staff development and sales management.


Supervisory Responsibility:

Initially this position will be responsible for 6 FTE’s, but eventually this will grow to over 20 in the coming years.


Minimum Qualifications Required:

Bachelor's degree or in lieu of degree a minimum of 16 years of related wealth management, investment, Trust or estate planning experience working with complex tax and legal issues.

Minimum 12 years of related managerial experience

Fifteen years of experience in Finance or accounting preferably in a financial institution.


Technical Skills:

Excellent PC skills with a working knowledge of Microsoft office.

Physical Requirements:

Travel periodically throughout the Region and to the company headquarters on the East Coast.
