Retail Credit Risk Quantitative Risk Analyst Lead in Buffalo, NY at M&T Bank

Job Description

Focusing on a particular portfolio (ex: home-secured, installment, or revolving credit) provide credit risk analysis and reporting to support the second line of defense's process for independently identifying credit risks, monitoring for adherence to the bank's risk appetite, and providing recommendations for appropriate risk appetite limits.

Lead the quantitative and qualitative analysis into a particular retail lending business (home-secured, installment, or revolving) to help establish, monitor, evaluate and interpret data with a risk management focus and an understanding of business strategy. Assist in the risk analysis and identification of other retail business lines as needed.
Identify and articulate current and emerging credit risks to senior management.
Provide analysis and reporting as needed relative to the Comprehensive Capital Analysis Review (CCAR), Allowance for Loan and Lease Losses (ALLL) and Current Expected Credit Losses (CECL) processes.
Possess an understanding of key credit risk concepts such as segmentation analysis, logistic regression, decision trees and multivariate analysis.
Mentor junior or newer analysts in M&T credit culture and analysis.
Demonstrate working knowledge of Credit Risk databases to provide data and analytical support to Senior Management.
Perform data manipulation and analysis using SQL, SAS and Microsoft Excel and present results and recommendations to Credit Risk Management.
Track portfolio performance and risk strategy results. Ensure business line strategies are in line with the bank’s credit risk appetite.
Provide guidance and direction to lower level analysts regarding all aspects of data analysis.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

Required Qualifications:
Bachelor degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Analysis or another technical discipline, or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of 5 years relevant experience. -OR-
Master’s degree in Mathematics, Statistics, Quantitative Analysis or another technical discipline, with minimum of 3 years relevant experience or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 9 years higher education and/or work experience to include a minimum of 3 years relevant experience.
Minimum of 5 years relevant experience
Banking or Financial Services experience.
Experience with SAS, SAS Enterprise Miner and other Statistical Software Packages.
Advanced Knowledge of SQL and Microsoft Office.
Ability to utilize analytics in a collaborative manner across business functions and product lines to derive optimum solutions.
Demonstrated ability to communicate complex concepts.
Demonstrated ability to manipulate and analyze data across large databases.

Preferred Qualifications:
Credit Analysis experience
