Retail Market Manager- Greater Delaware

FUNCTION:
The Greater Delaware Retail Market Manager will provide strategic direction in managing and leading the retail sales and operations team comprised of 75 branches and staff. The individual will be responsible for all market activity including operating and financial results, talent management including building a diverse and engaged workforce and delivering a differentiated customer experience across the entire branch network while enhancing our brand in the community.
 
POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
 
Leadership
  • Direct and enhance the Regional and branch management teams through developmental plans and consistent coaching, training and feedback.
  • Lead Regional management’s ability to coach and develop branch management and staff (follow-up/follow through coaching), inclusive of leading the sales process and executing business banking sales activities.
  • Leads the empowerment of the branch teams to put the customer first; create an environment of customer advocacy always ensuring staff is delivering the highest levels of customer satisfaction across the market.
  • Leads by applying Precision Leadership principles to build highly engaged work teams.
  • Work with executive management and peers to set strategic direction for the retail bank focusing on employee commitment, customer attraction, retention/relationship growth, and increasing sales of all Bank products.
  • Build partnerships throughout the bank.
  • Ensure requisite support to key internal business partners, including M&T Securities, Business Banking, Treasury Management, Merchant Services and Mortgage, to facilitate successful branch partnerships and achieve shared sales goals.
  • Represent and sponsor one of M&T’s Resource Groups
  • Represent the branch network by participating in Bank-wide strategic planning committees as required.

  • Ensure branch participation in local resource groups
     
    Market Strategy
  • Provide strategic direction and lead a major geographic market comprised of multiple regions of the retail branch network, inclusive of sales, operations and financial results.
  • Challenge status quo to improve outcomes; make prudent decisions and calculated risks to create long term value for the Bank.
  • Maintain active membership in the local community and represent the Bank at various community functions (Brand Ambassador for the community).  Ensure market management is actively involved in their communities.
    Business Manager
  • Make effective mission critical decisions with limited information under tight deadlines; solve problems with varied levels of complexity, ambiguity and risk
  • Exercise the usual managerial authority with respect to staffing, hiring, performance management, salary recommendations, and termination.
  • Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
  • Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management
    Change Management
  • Ability to manage, lead and enable process of change and transition; create culture of change and innovation; align change efforts with vision and strategic goals; facilitate leadership team’s efforts to overcome obstacles; encourage collaboration; provides access or opportunity to resources to support change efforts; provides opportunity to discuss topics where there are divergent points of view.

    NATURE AND SCOPE:
    This position has responsibility for the strategic direction and all activities occurring within one of eight large geographic markets, as well as all sales, service and operational activities occurring within that network. 
    The position has approval and signing authority within established limits.
     
    MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
  • Bachelors’ degree in business, related field and a minimum of 12 years’ proven and progressive retail branch experience, including a minimum of 8 years’ proven and progressive managerial experience or, in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 16 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 12 years’ proven and progressive retail branch experience.
  • Demonstrated sales/business development experience, with track record of proven results.
  • Strong leadership skills.

  • Strong interpersonal skills for relationships within and outside the company; fosters connections and belonging
  • Ability to function professionally at many different levels (clients, management and peers).
