The Senior Capital Adequacy Process (CAP) Analyst provides strategic direction and assists with managing the bi-annual CAP assessments in accordance with the requirements of the Federal Reserve’s Comprehensive Capital Analysis and Review (CCAR). The Sr. CAP Analyst assists with directing workflow and may supervise other analysts involved in these processes.
Work with the CAP Manager to manage the governance of the bi-annual CAP assessment, ensuring regulator expectations are met; identify control gaps and areas of improvement; develop remediation plans, as needed.
Create comprehensive documentation of CAP assessment processes and other CCAR related processes, identifying areas for improvement. Review procedures created by Analysts. Oversee the implementation of process improvements to create more effective and efficient capital adequacy processes.
Develop presentations and memorandums that analyze and summarize M&T’s CAP for senior management, internal risk governance committees and regulators.
Assist in the completion, submission and review of the capital plan submission document.
May be called upon to provide presentations to department management concerning the business activities of the department.
Develop strong partnerships with business managers to gain an understanding of capital adequacy processes.
Manage efforts to resolve Audit and Regulatory findings.
Keep apprised of regulatory developments affecting the bi-annual stress tests requirements and best practices.
Assist in training and mentoring Analysts and Associate Analysts.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite.  Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
The Capital Adequacy Process is the process for assessing capital adequacy, including all assumptions, limitations, weaknesses and uncertainties, in order to ensure M&T holds sufficient capital under stressful conditions. Sound governance and effective controls are integral components of the CAP.
The Sr. CAP Analyst works under limited supervision and is required to exercise independent judgment and discretion. This position has substantial contact with the internal departments within M&T, including middle, senior and executive management. The Sr. CAP Analyst may lead project or business related initiatives and may also serve in a supervisory capacity for Associate Analysts and Analysts.
May supervisor Associate Analysts and/or Analysts.
Bachelor’s degree in quantitative/analytical discipline (e.g., Finance, Accounting or Economics) or relevant field of study and minimum of five years’ experience including two years’ experience in the finance industry, or in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of nine years’ higher education and/or work experience with a minimum two years’ experience in the finance industry.
Proven intermediate experience with spreadsheet, work processing and presentation software.
Strong oral and written communication skills.
MBA or advanced degree preferred.
Strong knowledge of financial principles and regulatory and compliance agencies/issues related to the banking industry.
Previous experience with CCAR/Dodd Frank Act Stress Test (DFAST) and regulatory reporting templates.
Advanced financial modeling skills.
Supervisory/management experience preferred.
