The Sr Wealth Planning Strategist plays a significant role in deepening and broadening relationships with existing clients as well as bringing new client relationships to the firm generally above the $10mm net worth. Partners with relationship managers, private client advisors, investment specialists and other planning specialists to identify, evaluate, implement and administer multigenerational financial planning strategies. Provides support as a subject-matter expert for fiduciary issues. The primary emphasis of this position is the qualitative and quantitative evaluation and presentation of strategies that complement the objectives of our clients.
May be the primary point of contact for the client relationship.
The Sr. Fiduciary Legal Analyst is the expert resource contributing business solutions in light of regulatory changes.
Applies in-depth knowledge of estate planning, trust administration, financial planning and tax issues in the development and review of multigenerational financial plans for clients. In-depth knowledge of risk management issues, regulatory requirements, and demonstrated ability to produce required compliance results.
Consistently follows and reinforces policies and collaborates with Sr. Wealth Strategists and Regional Representatives on compliance and risk issues.
Works with partners and subject matter experts across the organization to provide qualitative analysis as well as advice regarding legacy, governance and family education/succession. Established knowledge of insurance analysis, education funding analysis, asset allocation analysis, income tax planning issues, and other estate and non-estate planning related issues.
Ability to assess highly complicated and undefined situations in order to apply multigenerational wealth planning knowledge, thus creating multiple solutions. Ability to analyze highly complex, changing information to clarify problems and determine solutions.
Participates in the development of new client relationships with the Private Client Advisors and other business development partners including the Commercial and Business Banking teams across the organization.
Manage large (as defined by the business) accounts, ensuring complete and accurate documentation is maintained. Analyze the accounts and make appropriate recommendations to best meet the needs of the client and maintenance of assets or business interests. Provide this by actively supporting the revenue-generating activities pursued by senior account representative.
Foster client relationships, frequently serving as the point of contact for client questions either directly from the client and/or client representatives. Working collaboratively with the senior account representative/relationship manager to resolve issues, escalate as may be appropriate and to make referrals to the correct resource.
Develops and maintains a high level of knowledge trust, planning, corporate and basic investment disciplines and begins to develop a broader knowledge of investment, credit, and insurance disciplines. Provides/maintains appropriate levels of controls to minimize possible losses.
Demonstrate an in-depth knowledge of corporate policies and procedures related to the administrative role. As appropriate to the business supported, develop and maintain a high level of knowledge of the trust and agency discipline and service/product alternatives for the client. Stays current and is able to articulate current industry standards.
Author newsletters and white papers and participate in workshops and public speaking engagements to educate clients and market the wealth planning capabilities of the firm.
Exercise usual authority of a manager concerning staffing, performance appraisals, promotions, salary recommendations, performance management and terminations.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Ability to communicate internally and externally with bank management and executives and externally with clients, their representatives, accounting firms, other investment brokers, attorneys, CPAs, tax accountants, etc., to deepen and broaden existing client relationships and assist in the acquisition of new business.
May have team work leadership and mentoring responsibility of lower level Planners and/or planning administrators/analysts. May oversee and have accountability for planning activities within a defined geography.
JD or Master’s degree in business, finance, economics or related field plus a minimum of 8 years relevant work experience providing estate planning, financial planning and multigenerational wealth planning to ultra-high net worth clients
Knowledge of all phases of the planning process for wealthy clients including: client profiling, document review and analysis, quantitate analysis, selection of strategies, plan design and plan delivery.
Highly consultative and advisory based approach to problem solving
Strong presentation skills
Strong leadership presence.
Recognized expert in the field
Ability to travel including overnight stays
Hold at least one of the following designations: LLM, MS in Taxation, CPA, PFS CFP
Law firm, accounting firm or wealth management firm atmosphere focusing in an area of estate planning, personal income tax planning, asset protection and/or retirement planning.
Demonstrated technical and consultative selling skills in financial planning disciplines and trust administration
Demonstrated success partnering in a team environment
Self starter who is motivated and technically astute
