OverviewM&T Bank established a function to centrally manage master data for the enterprise, which resides within the Enterprise Data Office (“EDO”) reporting to the Chief Data Officer. Master Data Management (“MDM”) is one of the primary functions of the EDO with a focus currently on mastering the data about parties (i.e. Customers).


M&T Bank is in the process of integrating mastered data into the various lines of business, such as retail banking, commercial banking, business banking, wealth management, but also corporate functions, such as risk management and compliance.


A dedicated Master Data Analyst will support operations by monitoring and analyzing master data to ensure it is of high integrity and fit for downstream consumption.  


In order to support our continuous expansion, we are looking for a dynamic individual who has a mind for business and the technical prowess to help the further development of the master data management platform as the best and most trusted source of customer data within the enterprise.

Position Responsibilities

The data enthusiast and problem solver we’re looking for needs to be hands on, able to work in a team environment and requires minimal assistance to conduct analysis and deliver insights. 


Analyzing data to ensure accurate views of a customer and their relationship with the bank


Working with business lines, technology and external vendors to identify opportunities to improve the quality of master data


Analyze the impact on customer aggregation when new source systems are integrated into the master data environment

Conduct deep-dive analysis to compare / contrast customer views when existing functionality and processes are converted over to use centrally mastered data

Needs to be able to tell the story derived from analysis, provide recommendations and influence change this includes being able to create highly professional, informative, concise and compelling PowerPoint presentations and to communicate findings to multiple audiences, tailoring presentation accordingly in both formal and informal settings


Fulfill data requests from the business lines


Showcase and evangelize the use of mastered customer data leveraging central data and visualization tools such as Tableau

 Minimum Qualifications

Bachelors degree and 10 years of experience including 7 years of banking experience or in lieu of a degree a total of 14 years of total experience with 7 years of banking experience

A minimum of 5 years of data experience

Strong analytical ability and creative problem solving skills

Highly skilled in querying large sets of data using SQL and related programs

Proficiency with spreadsheets, databases, graphing and presentations

Experience with visualization tools such as Tableau

Extensive knowledge of the business environment and experience utilizing customer and account data through hands-on analysis and reporting within financial services.

Excellent oral and written communication skills with the ability to communicate complex issues to technical and non-technical audiences that include peers, partners, and senior IT and Business management

Excellent project management skills– able to lead and influence complex projects and make recommendations at all levels of the company; work in a team environment. 

Ideal Qualifications

Strong understanding of data about parties (customers, prospects, vendors, etc.) including descriptive data, hierarchies, relationships, classifications, etc.

Work experience at M&T Bank

Advanced degree

Experience with Master Data Management

Experience with Informatica's MDM technology
