Senior Financial Analyst

BASIC FUNCTION:
Work as a senior member of a team to build and refine highly technical forecasting tools designed to project financial benefits associated with corporate investments and/or actions. Communicate the results of analysis in the appropriate context and format in order to provide senior management with definitive financial data and advice for use in setting and realizing profit objectives. Support overall Corporate Finance efforts as needed including but not limited to providing support for Mergers & Acquisitions (M&A) efforts. May supervise the work of more junior team members.

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:
Value internal investments proposed throughout the Bank. Perform various levels of detailed, interpretative financial analysis utilizing complex modeling scenarios/activities.
Work in collaboration with business groups to provide insightful analysis regarding the proposed investment and resulting impacts.
Coordinate all aspects of the Internal Valuation Group (IVG) process, including working with the various business units’ management.
Promote a disciplined investment culture with internal clients.
Ensure a consistent approach – Same analytic philosophy regardless of project origin.
Conduct analyses regarding potential merger and acquisition opportunities for the company, including assessment of implications for corporate strategy and recommendations.
Assist with the evaluation of potential acquisition opportunities, including coordination of due diligence efforts which involve extensive interaction with various groups throughout the bank.
Conduct research and analyses of industry and peer bank data; keep apprised of peer activities including financial results, acquisition related activities, and capital actions.
Assist in training more junior financial analysts.
Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points, together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:
The incumbent works under very limited supervision, exercises significant latitude over work assignments and is responsible for:
Shaping strategy - the capacity to guide analysis and discussion and influence the outcome for key decisions.
Leadership Versatility - ability to effectively work with all levels of employees at the bank including senior management.
Decisiveness - capacity to work in a fast paced environment, handle multiple projects simultaneously and manage resources appropriately.
Communication - ability to understand an audience and prepare and communicate important information in the appropriate context and format (e.g. memo, presentation, etc.) across all levels of management.

MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:
May supervise the work of more junior team members.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:
Bachelor’s degree in Finance or Accounting, and minimum of 5 years’ related work experience, OR in lieu of degree, a combined minimum of 9 years’ higher education and/or related work experience.


Strong technical aptitude and advanced financial modeling skills.
High level of PC competencies (i.e database software such as Excel, PowerPoint, Word, Access) and other applications as necessary.
Excellent analytical skills.
Strong verbal and written communication skills.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:
CPA, MBA, or advanced degree preferred.
Ability to manage multiple projects at one time, and to prioritize workflow as necessary.
Deadline-oriented and results-driven.
