Staff Accountant Global Capital Markets Wilmington Trust Wilmington, DE  
BASIC FUNCTION: Responsible for preparing financial statements and serving as the primary accounting contact for numerous external clients. POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES: Identify and gather monthly financial transaction information and prepare workpapers for each client assigned; enter transaction into general ledger accounting application and produce financial statements. Prepare supporting schedules to calculate accruals and/or support financial statements, as applicable. Present financial statements at client board meetings, exhibiting the ability to address inquiries. Develop consistency for all reporting and insure adherence to generally accepted accounting principles, and MTB accounting policies. Conduct technical accounting-based research as applicable.  Organize monthly workpaper product that will support financial statements and detailed transactions and facilitate a workpaper review by management. Review the accounting transaction documentation for completeness and accuracy and research account variances. Identify and work to resolve accounting issues or variances. Provide guidance to junior staff. Work with internal administrative team and management, external client and third parties such as auditors and investment firms with regard to client issues. Track and enter time in client billing environment in order to meet revenue and production objectives. Adhere to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies. Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards as applicable. Complete other related duties as assigned. NATURE AND SCOPE: The position works under general supervision. Internal contacts within department or other M&T departments. External contact with client, auditors, investment firms, attorneys MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED: Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or Business related field and a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ relevant work experience. Excellent PC skills with a thorough knowledge Microsoft Office to include Excel, Word and Access. Complex analytical and problem solving skills. Decisiveness with a strong work ethic. Strong interpersonal skills with the ability to set examples for others. Support cross training activities. Demonstrated oral and written communication skills. Excellent organizational skills. IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED: CPA or CPA candidate Thorough knowledge of departmental software. Thorough knowledge and application of GAAP principles. Thorough general ledger accounting hands-on experience. Demonstrated team player. Ability to work under time constraints while maintaining accuracy.
