Job Description

Works closely with senior managers within Treasury and the Bank to monitor a portfolio of key Treasury initiatives, including supporting critical Bank-wide cross functional projects related to strategic objectives of the Bank, improving risk management and ensuring efficiency/sustainability of core processes and positioning the Bank to meet evolving regulatory expectations. Supports design, planning and implementation for these time-sensitive, critical, programs and/or projects. Supports facilitation of industry groups that meet regularly to share best practices and promote industry advocacy efforts.

Provide analytical expertise to support critical Bank-wide or Treasury projects that may include model development support (planning, design and analysis of results, preparing for and responding to effective challenge, presenting content at various governance checkpoints, development of comprehensive model documentation align with regulatory expectations and model validation and remediation efforts), analysis of complex data sets (compile complex data sets, develop standard reports and support development of presentations for Treasury and other senior governance committees), or analysis/optimization of data structures (as it aligns to Enterprise Data Management efforts, analyze existing data structures and data requirements and help design and implement solutions).
Support planning and implementation of time-sensitive, critical, programs and/or projects by leading teams through standard process improvement stages of evaluating the as-is process, gathering qualitative/quantitative data, and analyzing processes in light of desired changes to develop a new process, reorganize existing process, improve efficiency, reduce errors and risk, enhance regulatory compliance, and improve the control environment.
Work closely with managers and key stakeholders to develop project plans, estimate time/investment required, identify/manage key risks etc. Communicate project plans to affected parties to ensure a common understanding, establish expectations and promote collaboration across key stakeholders. Consider stakeholder perspectives, help build consensus, address objections, help develop solutions, and drive action. Help ensure buy-in and understanding of key decisions related to change initiatives. Communicate regular project status through various methods such as dashboards, emails, etc. Support preparation of materials, including background/summary of initiatives, status, issues, proposing new processes, organizational structures, enhancements, etc. for senior Groups/Committees
Assist management with maintaining departmental policies.
May lead Treasury professional development program by working with management to design formal and on-the-job training programs, developing training materials and pertinent reporting as needed and designing and implementing standard onboarding process for different functions within Treasury.
In response to formal review/feedback assist Treasury issue owners with developing remediation plans (as needed), monitoring implementation plans, and preparing for meetings with the Federal Reserve, Internal Audit, or 2nd Line of Defense. Support other departments/functions with remediation efforts and process improvements as required/requested.
Coordinate agenda development of regular conference calls and in-person meetings of industry groups, agencies and select US officials to share best practices and promote industry advocacy efforts. Gather perspectives on common issues from these participants to support efforts to respond to regulatory and legislative proposals/actions and facilitate regular regional bank interactions. Analyze emerging regulation and develop executive summaries to communicate potential changes and facilitate discussion within M&T and with peer banks.
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Design, implement, maintain and enhance internal controls to mitigate risk on an ongoing basis. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.
Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.

The position requires substantial interaction with internal contacts at middle and senior management level, as well as external contacts in order to obtain pertinent information.
The position acts as liaison between department and other bank personnel on various projects.
The incumbent is responsible for the overall coordination and management of projects at the division and department level to include day-to-day project supervision of project participants.

No direct reports, but may directly/indirectly manage a project team (5 ) employees.

Bachelor’s degree in business-related field and a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience, or in lieu of a degree a combined minimum of 7 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 3 years’ relevant experience.
Strong technical aptitude
Excellent problem solving and analytical skills.
Highly skilled proficiency with personal computers as well as pertinent spreadsheet, database, graphing, and presentation software.
Excellent verbal and written communication skills.
Strong attention to detail.
Proven record of success in project management.
Strong interpersonal skills necessary for business partner relationships within and outside the organization.

Experience with structured query language (SQL), programming experience, and experience with statistical software
Experience with financial, regulatory and/or process analysis and technical writing.
Familiarity with the banking industry and evolving regulatory environment
MBA or advanced degree.
Exposure to Six sigma, LEAN concepts.
Strong facilitation skills.

Ability to handle multiple tasks and work under time constraints in support of various assignments.
