Wealth Investment Advisor Associate -  Park Avenue - NYC

FUNCTION:

Under the supervision of Investment Advisor(s), provides comprehensive investment management services to implement WTC investment policy to meet the needs of clients. Supports WAS and WTIM's integrated delivery of products and services consistent with the financial goals of clients and IC recommendations exercising a high level of competency. Career progression from this position would be to an Investment Advisor I position.

 

POSITION RESPONSIBILITIES:

•         Serves as a support associate to assigned Investment Advisor(s) and assists in recommending and setting asset allocation strategy for clients.

•         Assists Advisors in developing and implementing investment objectives for and assigned book of relationships.

•         Under the guidance of the Advisor(s), documents client investment objectives and ensures ongoing adherence to client investment policy – including asset allocation targets and ranges and other criteria.

•         Implements investment instructions and strategies for a limited book of relationships with the supervision of Investment Advisor(s).

•         Provides any necessary investment support to Investment Advisors, including information to clients, Private Client Advisors, Trust Advisors, and external 3rd party advisors to clients, as appropriate.

•         The associate role has potential for direct external client contact, incrementally more-so over time; internal contact at all levels.

•         Investment Advisors meet with clients on a regular basis as determined by the relationship team to review investment policy, asset allocation strategy, and performance.  Associates may also participate, as appropriate.

•         Coordinates, prepares and may sometimes participate in client investment reviews; participates in preparing new business presentations and in sales efforts with prospects, under the supervision of Investment Advisor(s).

•         Works with Investment Advisor(s) to actively monitor a client's financial situation and helps Advisor(s) proactively engage clients in considering changes to their financial strategies.

•         Assists Advisors in coordinating client accounts to participate in alternative investments with our affiliates.

•         Helps ensure adherence to applicable compliance/operational risk controls in accordance with Company or regulatory standards and policies.

•         Promotes an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand.

•         Maintains M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.

•         Complete other related duties as assigned.

NATURE AND SCOPE:


MANAGERIAL/SUPERVISORY RESPONSIBILITY:

Effectively delegates tasks and projects as needed.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

•         Bachelor's degree and a minimum of 4 years’ investment management experience with client contact, or in lieu of a degree, a combined minimum of 8 years’ higher education and/or work experience, including a minimum of 4 years’ investment management experience with client contact.

•         Minimum successful completion of Level 1 CFA. Series 65 a plus.

•         Demonstrates a strong level of proficiency in the use of personal computers and software packages, especially Microsoft Office.

•         Ability to read, analyze, and interpret general business periodicals, professional journals, technical procedures, and government regulations.

•         Ability to write reports and business correspondence.

•         Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from groups of managers, clients, and the general public.

•         Strong mathematical skills, ability to apply concepts of algebra and statistics, ability to use software programs and financial calculator.

•         Strong critical thinking skills, ability to synthesize data to determine correct policy and strategy and implement such strategy in the most efficient manner possible.

•         Ability to build a strong level of trust with internal colleagues and clients; empathy and real interest in working with people; self-confident and a proven ability to work well with highly capable and successful individuals; ability to work effectively in a team environment.

IDEAL QUALIFICATIONS PREFERRED:

Bachelor’s degree in Finance. MBA or CFA.
