Wellness & Employee Benefits Analyst

Position Overview:
Responsible for administration of the M&T Bank Benefits on behalf of plan participants, which includes preparation of employee documents, ensure data integrity, timely and professional response to inquiries and coordination of ancillary duties related to management of M&T Bank’s qualified and non-qualified retirement plans and other related employee benefit programs.
Key Responsibilities:
Provide technical support to senior benefit specialists and benefit managers, including providing and analyzing data analytics utilizing complex spreadsheets and other platforms
Responsible for processing and maintaining active employee and M&T retiree records related to the M&T Bank Pension Plan. Process beneficiary and other plan benefits on behalf of participants, including suspension of benefits letters and over-65 notifications
Create documents for employees preparing for retirement and provide consultation to assist employees with questions completing the documents.
Update and provide quality control of data feeds updating employee records on vendor pension actuarial platform, defined contribution platform and payroll systems.
Complete department reconciliations of certain platforms to ensure data integrity, including aggregate earnings reconciliations
Create reports and define parameters utilizing defined benefit and defined contribution platforms.
Assist in BOLI/COLI policy administration
Support ESPP updates, calculations and reconciliations
Assist team in calculating Retirement Accumulation Account (RAA) contribution and 401k true up match calculations
Create queries and identify exceptions
Participate and contribute in building employee wellness initiatives to create an evolving employee wellness program
Participate in retirement portion of new-hire orientation, update according to legislative requirements and trends
Provide technical support to HRDirect team in responding to employee and retiree inquiries. Work closely with actuary consultant and system vendor
Coordinate PBGC and IRS Form 5500 regulatory filings and reporting on a timely basis. Coordinate Annual Funding Notice distribution
Work with internal and external auditors, Compliance and Risk Departments, as applicable. Create, update and follow procedures necessary to perform job requirements.
Assist with special projects as needed
Understand and adhere to the Company’s risk and regulatory standards, policies and controls in accordance with the Company’s Risk Appetite. Identify risk-related issues needing escalation to management.
Promote an environment that supports diversity and reflects the M&T Bank brand. Maintain M&T internal control standards, including timely implementation of internal and external audit points together with any issues raised by external regulators as applicable.
Complete other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Required Qualifications:
Bachelor’s degree and 3 years benefits experience preferably with retirement plans background.
In lieu of a degree, 7 years of relevant experience.
Strong knowledge of personal computers and software applications (word processing, spreadsheet, database programs) utilized by department.
Ability to troubleshoot technical problems that result from multiple interfaces.
Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including ability to give effective presentations.
Strong analytical ability and creative problem solving skills.
Detail oriented, analytical with a strong commitment to quality.
Ability to handle multiple assignments simultaneously.
Positive attitude to effectively deal with customers and coworkers.
Self-motivation, initiative, ownership, and effective process improvement skills.
Able to work independently and function as a member of a team.
Ability to travel during special Bank projects and initiatives.
Experience in compliance requirements related to benefits administration.
Experience interpreting qualified and non-qualified plan documents as well as other legal communications.
Ideal Qualifications Preferred:
Bachelor's Degree in Business, Human Resources, Accounting or related field.
Prior actuarial experience or pension processing helpful.
Prior vendor management and project management experience.
Ability to analyze complex data, identify root causes and determine appropriate solutions.
